Sherlock ended up at Downey ACC as a stray… and ever since, he’s been watching people walk by his kennel like one of them might finally be his person. He still believes that. Even as the shelter fills past capacity. Even as more dogs come in from a hoarding case. Even as space disappears and decisions start getting made faster. He’s not the loudest. Not the most attention-grabbing. Just a good dog who needs someone patient. Someone who understands shepherds. Someone who will let him settle, learn, and feel safe. Sherlock is able to engage with other dogs but requires consistent guidance, particularly around calmer, more gentle companions. He shows social interest and will offer play bows; however, his interactions can quickly escalate to mounting behavior (he was not fixed at this time!) While he is responsive to handler redirection, he can be persistent. During play, he has nipped at other dogs’ hindquarters and necks, leading to avoidance behaviors from the group. Due to the need for frequent intervention, he was moved to a separate yard, where he settled more appropriately. Brought in as a stray to Baldwin Park Animal Care Center over a month ago, Billy the Kid hasn’t left his kennel since. Thirty days of waiting. SHE CAME IN KNOWING LOVE. THE SHELTER IS ERASING IT. 💔 April (#A2246228) is a 2 year German Shepherd that was surrendered to the shelter when her owner got sick. They probably thought she’d be adopted in a week. That was 82 days ago. You can tell she had a family once. Well behaved. Great notes. Does well in playgroups. That was before the lockdown where she wasn’t allowed out of her kennel for 30‼️days. Four weeks in a cement box. Complete isolation with no exercise, no socialization, no fresh air. A dog who came in knowing love sitting in filth, wondering what she did wrong. Each time I saw her she was worse. More shut down. More distressed. Most recently, sick with a URI. Update: Rescued by @muddypugfarm 🎉 Poor Max was Owner Surrendered AT AGE 15. 💔😢 What the? He was left at @baldwinparkanimalslaco on 2/20/26 and looks SO sad in his intake photo at the end of this reel. This is NO PLACE for a senior and he needs outta here and into a loving home and on a soft bed! He is 98 lbs and LOVES treats. He was doing the old man "woo woo" barks to get me to toss more. Sadly, that is the only enrichment he's getting here as the dogs are still on lockdown for distemper outbreak so we can't take them out and learn more about them.
