Story time: my background
If you told me one year ago that I’d be working in this wonderful beauty industry and start my own business , I would’ve laughed. Not because I couldn’t do it or wouldn’t want to do it; but because I was afraid of change:
I started college 10 years ago, and graduated with my bachelors degree in liberal studies with a minor in Psychology 6 years ago. I took a lot of health science courses, including Human Anatomy and medical terminology thinking I would enjoy a lifelong career in the mental health field. I worked as a community based therapist helping children and adults with behavioral disorders for 3 years straight. I wanted to help those with such issues find peace and comfort and acceptance. And at the time I thought I was where God wanted to be However, I was dead wrong. To be very raw and honest, I was burnt out. Not so much because of the intensity of the job; but how it affected me when I got home every night. I am diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) when I was young. Anxiety attacks are (yes I am saying this in the present tense) a daily occurrence for me, sometimes multiple in a day. The industry I was in did not help it at all. I thought I could control it; bottle it up, and move on. But I was afraid to admit how bad it affected me because I felt it was like succumbing to my anxiety. I let pride get in the way. I didn’t know any other way to reach others, And when I researched Esthetics as a career choice, I was skeptical but I just bit the bullet and took a tour to a local esthetics program. Premiere Aesthetics Institute. As soon as I walked into the school, I felt this wave of pure serenity. Total peace and quiet, which to be honest was weird as I was used to chaos and noise. But the simple bliss of the quiet and calm ambiance was something I could NOT say no to. As I was in my program, all the stuff I learned about the industry as well as myself was just fun and exciting. I found new passions of mine that I never knew existed and most of all, it brings me peace. With all of that being said, I have found a way to bring peace and comfort to my community without sacrificing my own.
