A common question that is received is if it’s best to apply skincare products to a clean dry skin or skin that is damp. There are definitely pros and cons to both application methods and the goals you’re trying to achieve.

Pros of damp skin:
Damp skin - as in fresh out of the shower, after cleansing or a hydrating toner, will help products absorb better into the skin. This is especially beneficial for active ingredients like Vitamin C, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid etc.; reason being is that our skin is more permeable when damp and will accept skincare products better.

Cons of damp skin:
Now on the flip side, this is also true for strong prescription-strength topical skincare products as well. For example, retinoids like Trentinoin, Retin-A or Differin and many acne medications can cause irritation, dryness, peeling, etc so it’s best to apply to apply on dry skin for a slower more controlled application to minimize this from occurring; this also applies to AHA and BHA products as well since they can cause irritation and over-exfoliation; so it’s best to follow the manufacturers directions and/or ask your Doctor/Derm/Aesthetician’s advice for products like these.
