I want to thank all of the wonderful clients that I've had over my 36 years as a nail tech & the fond memories of our time spent together will stay with me always.
🥰
In mid December, 2019 I was forced to let go 90% of my clientele due to a torn rotator cuff in my dominant arm along with bone spurs in both shoulders which made it beyond excruciatingly painful & virtually impossible to do the side-to-side filing motion anymore.
👉🏽 I couldn't even lift my arms to dress myself & had to stop working immediately during our busiest Christmas season. After 32 years of building my clientele, just like that... everything I'd worked for was gone & the doctor asked me "so how are you going to support yourself now that you can no longer do nails?"
😱
I was due to have surgery as the Covid lockdowns came & hospitals canceled all unnecessary surgeries. By the time we were graciously permitted to reopen our non-essential businesses 3 months later, the pain in my shoulder had gone down from an 11 to about a 1 or 2 on the pain scale (10 being the highest). Not using my arm for all those months & keeping it close to my body seemed to be healing it!
🙏🏼
God was SO good to me & I never lost faith in Him because I knew there's always a reason for everything in life. After months of praying & untold sleepless nights spent worrying if we could make it without 90% of my salon income, the answer was finally clear that we could with the help of us reducing all unnecessary spending.... plus I'd also been working on my side-hustle since 2008 to grow the little "nail tech networking event" that I started in Gatlinburg, TN.
🥰
Today my life is 110% better than it was pre-injury when I was burning the candle at both ends essentially working 2 full time jobs & I wouldn't change a minute of suffering to turn back time!
🔥
The 10% of my wonderful clients who stuck with me for pedicures which I could do with my electric file using an up & down motion (not side-to-side) are the last clients I'll continue servicing as my nail tech career is winding down.
😢
👉🏽 but thankfully the Event Coordinator career that I'd stumbled into during the Great Recession by starting the Nail Tech Event of the Smokies in Gatlinburg Tennessee has only gotten busier & the sky's the limit with that (praise be to God)!
🤩😎😍
So it appears that all's well that ends well & for the 1st time in my life I can say that I'll no longer be taking any new nail clients. ✌️
The backstory of how the Smokies Nail Show got started {spoiler: it wasn't planned 💅👣}! I'm just a longtime nail tech with big goals & good organizational skills + enough business savvy combined with the drive to grind it out to the finish line....
Not taking new clients but old ones still know how to reach me for pedicures! TY 😘

This is a 1 day old pedicure from a local spa. The disgruntled employee who begrudgingly did this elderly lady's pedi cut her toenails at an incorrect angle BEFORE REMOVING HER POLISH, leaving sharp spikes of nail digging into her skin at the sidewalls.
If these sharp spikes aren’t remedied, they will pierce the skin causing an open wound. She also neglected to trim both the pinky toenails during this very expensive pedicure, too.
THIS is how people get infections that lead to amputations & sometimes death. Often people cannot reach their feet, have poor circulation or lack of sensation & don’t even realize there’s a problem until it’s too late.
The general public relies on US, the alleged nail experts to know what we are doing & they trust us to do right by them. Please understand that just because someone has a cosmetology license does NOT automatically make them qualified nor knowledgeable to work on feet.
What we learn in beauty school is very limited & is just enough to pass state board tests. That's all beauty school is designed for (think of it as kindergarten). It’s up to US to continue our education on our own for as long as we are in the beauty industry.
KY no longer requires Continuing Educational hours to renew our licenses. Those who aren’t interested in doing feet will not further their knowledge, so choose your Pedicurist wisely, especially those of you who have compromised immune systems.
Pedicures are MORE than just polishing the toenails to look pretty, especially when it comes to elderly or diabetic foot care, where someone’s health & very life is at stake.
