SHair the wisdom Wednesday:
Do you have trouble getting your hairstyle the way you want it? Does it look frizzy when you finish? Is it flat instead of voluminous? Sometimes our hair routine is more by habit than common sense. If you are using a routine and not getting satisfactory results, your routine may need some adjustments.
Sometimes our products could be causing more harm than good. Experiment with using your products in a different way or not at all and see if the results are improved. Ask your hair expert for advise. Describe your problem and let them help with suggestions. You may be using too much product or not enough. You may need product only at the scalp and not the ends or visa versa. Sometimes we don’t think to re evaluate our routines when we are not getting best results. Sometimes instead of mousse or gel we may just need a leave in conditioner. Our hair changes over time and the needs change. Just food for thought! Happy Wednesday!

Dandruff is a scalp condition characterized by flaking of the skin and scalp due to a condition known as seborrheic dermatitis. It is often accompanied by itching of the scalp. Dandruff may also be caused by psoriasis and eczema or occasionally a fungus called Malassezia. Dandruff shampoos will often help with eliminating bacteria and fungus while eliminating dead skin cells on the scalp. Adding some drops of tea tree oil to your regular shampoo and/ or conditioner is a great way to treat this scalp condition and still use your preferred shampoo and conditioners.
Tea tree oil and apple cider vinegar added to water are both good treatments for this condition. Allow either to sit on the scalp for 15 minutes a few times a week before shampooing.
Baking soda in a paste with water used as an exfoliating scrub is also a good treatment for the build up of dead skin cells on the scalp and will help eliminate flakiness. Do not be too aggressive and just do treatments more often in order to not create too much irritation or bleeding.
Happy Wednesday!

SHair the wisdom Wednesday’s: Hair absorbs minerals from the water just like what you see deposited around your faucets. This can cause dry and brittle feeling hair and can inhibit your hairs ability to absorb conditioning agents.
Quick Fix:
Mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in 1/4 of water through your hair 10 minutes before washing or before showering so it has time to work on build up. Shampoo and condition. You should feel a difference immediately! Happy Wednesday!

SHair The Wisdom Wednesday:
This time of year we are all wearing hats, ski helmets, fuzzy jackets and sweaters. All of these create a perfect scenario for tangled hair and breakage. Winter can be tough on the hair. If you have hair of any length it can be terribly abused from rubbing against a sweater or jacket or between a hat or helmet and your sweater or jacket. Those underneath dreadlocks are one of the main culprits of damage and hair breakage. I’ve actually seen a client with a hole in the length of their hair from a helmet and ski jacket rubbing against their hair at the nape of the neck. If you want to protect your hair it is important to pull your hair up and wear a headband for warmth or wear pig tails or side braids to protect the hair from this friction.
Happy Winter Wednesday!

If you want a wonderful usable gift for someone on your Christmas list consider the gift of self care and purchase a gift certificate for someone to their favorite spa/salon/massage studio/exercise studio. What better way to say “I care about you” than with the gift of self care. My clients who have received gift certificate in the past have loved using them. Big or small, they can be used for a special hair product or used toward a service to be pampered. A wonderful choice in giving.
Twelve shopping days left! Good luck!

SHair The Wisdom Wednesdays. (Warning: Long post, but important)
Let’s talk heat damage. Using hot tools on the hair requires patience and care in order to prevent undo and irreparable damage.
A heat protectant is not a license to turn your hot tools temperature up.
Think of your hair as a fabric. What kind of fabric is your hair. If you consider the settings on an iron and why they are different for different fabrics you can liken it to your hair type.
-Course hair is like cotton fabric. It can withstand a higher temperature and still maintain its integrity without becoming damaged and broken.
-Medium or average hair would be similar to a silk setting on an iron.
-Fine and thin hair would be similar to a synthetic setting. It is fragile and can burn easily.

Have you ever put an iron on polyester fabric that was too hot and have it melt into the iron.
This is basically what happens when you iron your hair too hot. It will cause irreparable damage and will eventually start breaking off. The only remedy is cutting the hair.
Heat protectant is more for cosmetic help with smoothing and fly always. Some do have moisture qualities that can be beneficial but I liken it to spray starch. It helps get the wrinkles out but it doesn’t help protect the hair from improper heat setting.
If you use spray starch on your blouse when ironing,
you still cannot use a cotton setting on a polyester shirt.
So, I suggest with every person, you start with a heat setting that is mid range on your irons. This will probably be in the 175-225 range. If this setting works fine on your hair then the next time you use the iron turn it down just a notch. If this works then do the same thing again. Keep turning the iron down a notch until it is no longer effective. The next time you use the iron turn it up a notch and leave it there. This is most likely the most gentle yet still effective temperature for your hair type. Over time you will see an improvement on your hairs condition.
I have found that this is very effective and has helped clients add length to there hair when they have not been able to in the past if they use hot tools.

SHair the wisdom Wednesdays:
Did you know-The hair treatments which incorporate oils need to be a certain molecular size (which is called molecular weight) in order to pe*****te the cuticle layer of the hair and have any lasting effect.
The oils molecular weight should be in the range between 150-190. Some oil examples are as follows:
Coconut Oil- 125.103
Olive oil- 282.46
Jojoba Oil-590.90
Babassu Oil-879.71
If you are using a particular oil or curious about how beneficial one may be, you can search it online by googling G/MOL oil name to find the particular molecular weight.
Happy Wednesday!

SHair the wisdom Wednesday: FOR CURLY GIRLS, the best way to wear your hair curly is to:
1. Brush hair good with a natural bristle or combo natural and nylon bristle brush to remove loose hair.
2. Co-wash (cleanse and massage scalp and hair with a moisturizing/detangling conditioner). -Detergent in shampoo dries out textured hair and makes it frizzy. Forgoing shampoo is the new way.
3. While the conditioner is still in the hair, use a wide tooth comb to smooth and detangle hair.
4. Rinse conditioner from hair.
5. Use a T shirt or T shirt like fabric to wrap or blot hair to remove excess moisture. ( Terry towels and rubbing the moisture out of the hair roughen the cuticle and cause the hair to frizz.
6. Apply a leave in conditioner, curl cream or gel for curly hair by blotting it and scrunching it through the hair. Disturb the curl as little as possible
7. Gently place hair in desired style and let dry completely.
8. After the hair is dry you can gently loosen the hair for a more natural look.
Note: In the perfect world every curly girl would own a hood dryer like you see in salons. They cost about 100.00 dollars and don’t take up that much space. Doing the above steps and then setting under a hood dryer instead of drying naturally or blow drying I have found creates the best results for curly girls. The hair dries quickly and stays close to the head and doesn’t get frizzy. This is also a good way to dry hair if you are going to flat iron. I know, slightly unrealistic!
Have a beautiful Turkey Day! So much to be Thankful for! Blessings!

SHair the wisdom Wednesday: A Satin pillow case is great purchase for your hair. It helps with breakage on fine hair and helps keep your hair nice if you don’t shampoo daily.
Breakage is something I see often with long fine hair. Especially with side sleepers. One side will end up shorter due to breakage from rubbing on the pillow case. Either a satin pillow case, a braid, or a top knot with help keep the hair safe while sleeping.
Happy Wednesday!

SHair the wisdom Wednesday:
Baking soda is an easy addition to your hair routine. If you have oily scalp, a little baking soda in your shampoo helps neutralize your sebaceous glands and balance the production of sebum on the scalp.
The winter weather can also dry out your scalp just like it does the skin on the rest of your body. Moisturizing is an important part of your hair routine. Massaging the moisturizing conditioner into the scalp and letting it sit with help with flakiness.
Also adding a small amount of baking soda to your shampoo and massaging it into the scalp and following it with a moisturizing conditioner will get rid of that dandruff effect. The baking soda works as a mild pumice for the scalp and exfoliates the dry skin. A lot of people think they have dandruff in the winter but it is typically just dry skin. Happy Wednesday! 💗

SHair wisdom Wednesdays:
Brush your hair good before showering.
It helps with post shower tangles as well as clogged drains!

SHair Wisdom Wednesday:
Right along with the flatter, lifeless locks, you may start getting fly away or static in your hair. Same issue as last week and same remedy. You can also add a little leave in conditioner to the ends. I say ears down so its not too heavy. Don't add a silicone oil product like morrocan oil. That conducts electricity and most times make it worse intead of better.
