Had to show them that the trainer/coach can still get out there and grip and rip it on a run. What a great way to celebrate Juneteenth with this friend tradition. As I get older and with the wear and tear of years of sprints/jumps/sports I don’t get to run as much. It makes this run extra special to see how all the alternative running workouts I do these days keep me conditioned to do my first love - running.
What does this video of me swimming have to do with framing my year in fitness? Glad you didn’t ask haha. Framing question #2 - What fitness activity/routine did you stick with through the good and bad in 2023? Fitness results come from the two P’s - Persistence and Perseverance, because there’s no substituting time put in. Fitness won’t be fun and something you want to do everyday, but it’s important to push through and get it done. I took up swimming when my body could no longer handle the running and plyometric heavy workouts that I used to do. To be frank, swimming is not something that I do well and I don’t like being bad at things. But I know that my fitness in the long term depends on me finding exercises that I can continue to push myself to do as I age. So I’m really proud of how I’ve stuck with it and improved over the years. And I can say now that on those rare good days, it actually does feel like I’m gliding through the water.

As the year comes to a close I was reflecting back on my fitness and how to put it into perspective. I came up with 3 ways to view my year that I think could be helpful for others. 1 - In 2023 was there a fitness/body moment that stands out for you that you’re really proud of? For me this year, when I look back at the many workouts, games played and challenges tried, the moment that stood out was an all out mile effort on the track. It was my first time back on the track after spending 2021 and 2022 rehabbing knee and back injuries. How did my body respond as I approach 40? With a time of 5:27, my fastest mile in years and not far off a personal best of 5:00 flat. What I’m most proud of with this mile was that I pushed past my doubts about what my body could still do. Sometimes I find with myself and clients that the thing holding us back is the lack of self-belief. So let me know in the comments, was their something in your year in fitness that showed you that your body was capable of more than you thought?
And check in over the next week for the other two framing questions for your year in fitness.

Today I got my as soon as I woke up and saw another client had left a 5-star review on for my personal training services. I often say the best part of my job is the amazing people I get to work with on their fitness journeys. When David started with me he had some lofty goals he wanted to achieve in a short amount of time. I’m in awe of the progress he’s made and where he wants to go next. Keep up the great work and many thank yous for the kind words

How much do you move in a day? Research is consistently showing that our more sedentary modern lives are having really adverse effects on our health. I listened to Sunday Story featuring their Body Electric series with host Manoush Zomorodi about work being done to find solutions to sitting all day. A great listen and helpful to my approach with my clients on how to get more movement in their days. Check out the link in my bio to get to the NPR series.

Travel workouts are so much easier when you’ve got a great gym to in. Todays session was a 10 minute run on the skillmill treadmill, followed by a full body lift and weighted ab/core routine on a stability ball. All tracked on my trusty garmin watch. Ready for some beach time now 😎🏖️🌊

Got to do a pretty cool thing recently where I spoke with Iamwellandgood and Nike about “The Rules We Run By”
I’m a lifelong card carrying member of the “run for fun club”, so I had great time talking about my love and passion for running. Some of my earliest memories revolve around running. You can read about them and how running makes me feel at the link below:

It feels so good to be back running outside and to be doing it at pace I haven’t hit in years. I’ve been putting in the long, tedious hours of rehab on my back, knee and achilles and it’s really starting to pay off. The journey back from injury can seem never ending but trust me there’s light at the end of that tunnel.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Each Exercise" for . Check it out here https://www.newsweek.com/walking-running-advantages-disadvantages-both-exercises-1760450
