Types of exfoliation and why is it important?

Exfoliation removes dead skin cells. It’s beneficial for removing dry/dull skin and helps promote new skin growth leaving skin brighter and smoother. There are many types of exfoliation, scrubs, chemicals, and enzyme masks. It’s best to find what works best for your skin depending on your concerns, your skin type and your sensitivity. If you have sensitive skin I’d recommend an enzyme mask or chemical exfoliation as they are less abrasive on the skin compared to a physical scrub. Chemical exfoliants use acid that help break down the bond of dead skin cells. I always recommend starting off with exfoliation once a week, and if tolerable press to two times a week and then finally three times a week, never back to back days as your skin will need time to heal and rejuvenate in between. For acne prone skin a chemical exfoliant with Salicylic Acid is best. If you are concerned with fine lines/wrinkles I recommend a chemical exfoliant with Glycolic acid. Exfoliation at night is more effective than in the morning, at night your skin can truly take a break, heal and rejuvenate itself. Remember to follow up with a great serum, moisturizer and spf 30 or higher(if exfoliating in the morning).
