Ta ta to the tatas
Leanne’s journey through breast cancer.
Another complication. I woke up in the night Thursday night to discover that my incision had opened up. It was a bit crime scene ish.
I am so lucky. The girls, Jason and Tonya, and Kate tag teamed helping me through the day. Jeremy was able to come home early. Kelsey took over for me while my Kinders went on a field trip.
Implant is now out. It will be out for a while and I’ll have some decisions to make.
After a successful surgery, I am home!!
I have a portable wound vac that I will wear for a week and will continue to take oral antibiotics.
I truly appreciate all of your thoughts and kind words as we dealt with this bump in the road.

The antibiotics tried, but I was still in pain so I had surgery this afternoon to remove the implant and place a wound vac.
I came out of surgery in less pain and honestly I feel better than I have in days. Odd how you don’t realize just how icky you feel until you feel better.
I’ll be hanging out here in the hospital all weekend and have another surgery on Monday to replace the implant.

My cocktail for the next 24 hours. Lefty got infected and wasn’t responding to oral antibiotics. Any positive energy, juju, prayers, or witchcraft you could spare to send my way in hopes I can avoid another surgery would be greatly appreciated!!
Leanne is now home, and there is now more to her! Doc says d everything went well and to just watch things over the next week or so before the follow up appointment.
The hospital is running about two hours behind, so Leanne just went back for the exchange. Surgery is supposed to last around two hours and I will update the page as soon as I learn more.
Tomorrow is exchange day! We were planning to wait until June, but one of the expanders has a leak so tomorrow it is!!
Long post:
On Monday I took I took off of work to take Jeremy to his colonoscopy. I did some house work and nothing hurt, but I was a little sore. I went in for a fill and she poked around on the sore spot. We decided I’d just done too much.
Tuesday I was walking in to school with my teammate. She was awesome and offered to carry my computer bag. When I went to hold the door across my body with my right hand I felt something pop in my right breast and was immediately in horrible pain. I thought it would subside but it didn’t and I realized I couldn’t move.
My team lead came down and got my principal. They were awesome and helped me until Jeremy could get there. The doctor’s office said to go to the er.
7 hours there and they gave me an ekg and an xray and pain meds. They were very rough with me. I could write a whole oage, and probably should have the unkindness I had there.
We went to see my doc today and the gentleness the med assistant showed me was a stark contrast to how rough they were with me yesterday .
My doc has upped/ changed my medication and I can relax, and am able to move some, but still hurt a lot.
Hoping my muscle will calm down soon.
I saw the plastic surgeon this past Friday and it went very well! He took out my stitches and the incisions are finally closed. They placed steri strips to help aid in the continued healing. I am scheduled for my first fill this coming Thursday.
I am tolerating Tamoxifen very well. I have had some hot flashes and my skin is definitely drier, but it’s really not too bad!
I am so grateful for my teaching team and the team of moms I volunteer with. I’m not able to do as much as would like, but with their help I’m able to still be back at it and I am so very grateful for them.
As the saying goes.. two steps forward and one step back…
Saturday I was getting ready to shower and was going to trim the stitches I was spitting. When I picked at the scab it came off and the right side opened up… no bleeding. I called the after hours line and they called in antibiotics and had me dress it with cream I was already using on my left(cancer) breast. Then I went in today for the surgeon to work on them.
The scab thing was not a huge deal. He trimmed it up and sewed it up. He said he would have had to do that regardless. Unfortunately lefty still hasn’t gotten its act together. He cut on it some and stitched it back up.
I have an appointment to go see him Friday. Depending on what it looks like we’ll keep at it, or we may end up taking the expander out next week and I could have to spend a couple of days in the hospital on a vacuum.
I’ve cried a little… I’ve been angry a little, but I’ve decided for now I’m going to hang on to the possibility that with the old school stitches my body will get its act together.
No chemo!!
Tamoxifen for the next five years assuming I can tolerate it. If I hadn’t had a hysterectomy I would need more drugs, but I’m good otherwise.
My brain is going to think I’m menopausal so I’ll have to adjust to that.
I had a GREAT appointment today!
The doctor says my incisions look good. He trimmed some stitches—“these really should have dissolved by now” Yeah.. I don’t do that.
I am going to go back in two weeks and start the filling process.
And the best news of all… I am scheduled for implants in June 10th!!
This scheduled could be derailed if I have to have chemo, but for now I’m going to celebrate.
