Sometimes that also means slowing down long enough to reset the energy of the space.

FORMALDEHYDE… let’s talk about it 🗣

As we discussed in part 1, it’s a 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙥 1 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙣 meaning there’s sufficient evidence that it causes
𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙧 in humans.

This is one of those ingredients that’s been in beauty products for 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙨, yet most people have no idea where it’s actually hiding 👀

I had a few other products I wanted to include in this reel, but after digging, I found they’ve recently been reformulated without formaldehyde (thank goodness!).

But in my opinion, there shouldn’t be any products on the market that still include this ingredient.

𝙇𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙘𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙮 𝙟𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙮? Remember, it’s not about being perfect, it’s about learning as you go and slowly swapping toxic products for cleaner ones.

For me, that journey began in 2014, when I really started paying attention to what I put in and on my body.

But even in 2017, I was spending a month each year solo backpacking through Europe, and during that time, I was still getting Keratin treatments (which I mention at the end of the video).

Staying in hostels and being ready for any adventure meant being makeup-free and needing hair that could be washed and air-dried easily… not curly hair that took time to straighten. So while I mostly chose the cleaner keratin option, my stylist did a Brazilian Blowout a couple of times.

Fast forward a few years, and I’ve embraced my natural hair (which has actually straightened with age — lol!) and find it so much easier with practice and repetition to live a clean lifestyle.

If you’re looking to start your clean journey, just remember, you don’t have to be perfect. We're human, so allow room to give yourself grace 🤍

That’s why I always pay attention to things like 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙤𝙞𝙡, 𝙖 𝙥𝙚𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙚𝙪𝙢-𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩 commonly found in lip products.

It’s one of those areas where switching to clean, non-toxic options just makes sense.

Now in 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙩 2, I'm sharing one product category where I was genuinely surprised to still see them show up so often, and that's 𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙖.

Many beauty brands today proudly label products as paraben-free, which is why it’s interesting that mascara is still one of the harder products to find clean formulas for. Some mascaras even contain 𝙢𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙞𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙚𝙣𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙡𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙪𝙡𝙖.

𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙚𝙣𝙨 𝙪𝙨𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣’𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙣 because when you start looking closely at ingredient lists, you’ll often see 𝙥𝙚𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙚𝙪𝙢-𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 alongside parabens, like isoparaffin and petroleum which were also in these mascaras.

💡𝙉𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨:
Mascara is just ONE product...
There's foundation, concealer, powder, blush, setting spray etc.

If a single product can contain several questionable ingredients, imagine the combined exposure from an entire routine used every day.

The good news?
There are great, high-performing clean alternatives, and I shared some at the end of the video.

Opening night 🎭 One ticket 🎟 Solo date night ✨️

Truthfully, I think solo date nights are such an underrated form of self-care. It’s not the bubble bath kind, but the kind where you remind yourself that your life is happening now. Not when someone joins you, or when it’s more convenient.

If you’ve ever felt nervous about going out on your own, think of it as a chance to put yourself out there. You never know who you’ll meet, the woman sitting next to me at was also solo, and she mentioned she’s hitting a jazz club by herself later this week which inspired me to not wait so long before I do something like this for myself again.
