Some studies have found an association between migraines in mothers and colic in babies, and between migraines in children and colic in infancy:

📝Mothers with migraines
Babies whose mothers have migraines are 2.5 times more likely to have colic than babies whose mothers don't. One study found that mothers who have migraines at least 15 days per month have a higher risk of having colicky babies. Some suggest that colic could be an early sign of migraines because babies with colic may be more sensitive to environmental stimuli, similar to people who get migraines.

📝Children with migraines
Children who have migraines are more likely to have experienced colic as infants than children who don't. One study found that 72.6% of children with migraines had colic, compared to 26.5% of children without migraines.

📝How does this information help if you have an infant or child in pain?
Tell your pediatrician about your migraines, so they know all the facts and can optimize therapy.
There are painkillers even for infants and alternative therapies like chiropractic and homeopathy have shown some promise. What works for one person may not work for another, but when you or your child are suffering significant pain or discomfort it’s good to know that you have options. 💜

Bruxism- clenching your jaw and grinding your teeth, especially at night, can lead to waking up with migraines. The pressure on your TMJ (temporomandibular joint) transfers to your whole head and causes muscles to be tense from your neck to your forehead. If you wake up most mornings with a migraine and think this could be you, there are many varieties of mouth guards to protect your teeth and prevent the referred muscle strain. Ask your dentist to check if this could be you, by looking at the wear on your teeth, hairline cracks and make recommendations.
There are so many causes for migraines, let this not be one of them. Easy to treat without medication, and mouth guards range from $10 over the counter.

What do you use to treat your migraines?
There are so many different therapies, from pharmaceutical medicines, to herbal supplements, to alternative and complementary remedies. You can often combine treatments to holistically prevent and treat your pain. There is no such thing as one size fits all. What may work for someone else, might not work for you. Don’t lose hope though. There is a combination out there to control your migraine. Keep a migraine diary to log everything you’ve tried. Natural and alternative remedies may take 6-8 weeks to show efficacy. Pharmaceuticals should be monitored by your health care provider, with preventative medicines needing a few weeks of trial and adjustment.
Share below what works for you.

For me it’s Magnesium, trimethylglycine, Vit D, yoga, water, avoiding trigger factors like red wine to prevent. To treat it’s ibuprofen to start, and if that doesn’t work, then Sumatriptan. In extreme cases, it’s Zolmitriptan. This has taken me decades to figure out, with things changing as I move through different stages of life.

Did you know, that migraines can be more complex than just finding a single cause?
Many people get despondent when they use a ‘miracle cure’ that doesn’t work for them and destroys hope. It’s not as simple as that for most people and one-size-fits-all treatments rarely fit all! Keep a migraine diary for 3-6 months to find the patterns to your migraines, noting not only the potential triggers, but also the treatments you used. Some therapies, especially preventative, natural or alternative can take 6-8 weeks to show effect. Don’t give up. There’s a way to manage your migraines! Wishing you a migraine-free day.
