Wellness Wednesday, our favorite day!
On this beautiful June morning, let’s talk about one of the best things we can do for our health: spending time in nature.
Whether it’s a walk through the redwoods, a hike on a favorite trail, a visit to the beach, or simply sitting in a local park, time spent outdoors can have a powerful effect on both the body and mind.
Research has shown that spending time in nature may help:
🌲 Reduce stress and anxiety
🌲 Lower blood pressure and heart rate
🌲 Improve mood and mental clarity
🌲 Encourage physical activity
🌲 Support better sleep
🌲 Increase feelings of calm and well-being
The sights, sounds, and fresh air of natural environments help give our busy minds a chance to slow down and reset.
Living here in California, we’re fortunate to have incredible access to beaches, redwood forests, hiking trails, open spaces, and beautiful parks. Taking even a short break outdoors can help recharge both body and mind.
This week, challenge yourself to spend a little extra time outside. Take a walk beneath the trees, listen to the ocean waves, or explore a trail you’ve never visited before.
Sometimes the best therapy is simply nature doing what nature does best.

Muscle Monday – Scalp Series
Occipitalis
This week we’re focusing on the Occipitalis, a small muscle located at the back of the scalp near the base of the skull.
Although it’s not a large muscle, the occipitalis plays an important role in scalp movement and is closely connected to the muscles and connective tissues that influence head and neck tension.
The occipitalis works together with the frontalis muscle in the forehead as part of the Occipitofrontalis muscle group. These muscles are connected by the Galea Aponeurotica, a strong sheet of connective tissue that spans the top of the head.
Why does this matter?
Because of its location, tension in the occipitalis can contribute to:
• Tension headaches
• Tightness at the base of the skull
• Neck stiffness
• Pain that radiates toward the temples or behind the eyes
• Stress-related tension patterns
Many people develop tightness in this area from prolonged computer use, looking down at phones, driving, or maintaining a forward head posture throughout the day.
When the muscles and connective tissues at the back of the scalp become restricted, the effects can be felt far beyond where the tension actually begins.
Massage therapy, posture awareness, regular movement, and stress management can all help reduce tension in this region and improve overall comfort.
Tension at the back of the scalp can create discomfort far beyond where it starts.

Wellness Wednesday, our favorite day!
Today let’s talk about one of the most powerful wellness tools available to us — and it’s completely free.
Morning sunlight.
Getting outside within the first hour or two after waking up can have a surprisingly positive impact on your health.
Natural morning light helps regulate your body’s internal clock, also known as your circadian rhythm. This internal clock influences when you feel awake, when you feel tired, and even how well you sleep at night.
Benefits of morning sunlight may include:
☀️ Improved sleep quality
☀️ Better energy throughout the day
☀️ Enhanced mood and mental well-being
☀️ Support for healthy circadian rhythms
☀️ Increased vitamin D production from sun exposure
You don’t need hours outside to benefit.
Simply spending 5–15 minutes outdoors during the morning can help signal to your brain that it’s time to be alert and active.
One of the easiest ways to build this habit is by taking a short morning walk, enjoying your coffee outside, or simply stepping outdoors for a few minutes before starting your day.
Sometimes the simplest wellness habits can have the biggest impact.
