Recurring acne is often a sign that your skin is out of balance, not just oily. An increase in oil production is your skin’s way of protecting itself when the barrier is damaged or the pH is off, which can lead to more inflammation and breakouts.
When you focus only on “drying out” the oil, you ignore the inflammation underneath. Inflamed, stressed skin produces thicker, stickier sebum that clogs pores more easily and creates the perfect environment for acne bacteria to thrive.
