From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.
There are many ways to celebrate Juneteenth. From an outdoor cookout with traditional foods to the modern day office conference room, Juneteenth can be celebrated in various settings. Start with a reading of the “History of Juneteenth” to learn how Juneteenth celebrations have endured and evolved through the years. Happy BHM ❣️❣️Can’t start the month off without some black history facts.
On February 1, 1960, David Richmond, Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair Jr. (Jibreel Khazan), and Joe McNeil, four African American students from North Carolina A&T State University, staged a sit-in in Greensboro at Woolworth, a popular retail store that was known for refusing to serve African Americans at its lunch counter. Not long after their protest, sit-ins began occurring across the South, including the North Carolina cities of Charlotte, Durham, and Winston-Salem. These young men came to be known as the Greensboro Four.

This is why Natural Haircare brands such as our matters! It’s not just about creating haircare products for us. It’s about truly living in your own skin and being unapologetically “You”. We want everyone to feel comfortable rocking whatever natural hairstyle. We can’t allow others to tell us how to wear our hair, we people take the very hairstyles they try to band from us and where it themselves.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama wanted to wear braids, but said she straightened her hair as the U.S. ‘adjusted’ to a Black First Lady.
Michelle Obama said her dilemma was an extreme example of the decisions Black women make daily to navigate the politics and sensibilities of their workplaces. They often find it easier, healthier and safer to wear braids, dreadlocks or Afros, but feel the pressure from White beauty standards and workplace norms to chemically straighten their hair for a more professional, “clean-cut” appearance.
Attitudes about natural Black hairstyles, such as braids and dreadlocks, have shifted. Earlier this year, the House passed the Crown Act, legislation that would prohibit discrimination based on someone’s hairstyle, including those “in which hair is tightly coiled or tightly curled, locs, cornrows, twists, braids, Bantu knots, and Afros.” Although the bill stalled in the Senate, Alaska in September became the 19th state to pass legislation to protect Black people from being punished for how they wear their hair.
Continue being unapologetically you! 👩🏽🦱👨🏾🦱👑

📰 LBN News 📰
Nationally acclaimed civil rights and personal injury attorney Ben Crump and mass tort powerhouse Diandra “Fu” Debrosse Zimmermann of DiCello Levitt today filed a mass tort lawsuit on behalf of Jenny Mitchell, who contracted uterine cancer after her use of chemical hair straightening products sold by L’Oréal USA, suing that company as well as entities that assisted in the development, marketing, and sale of the defective products including Motions, Dark & Lovely, Olive Oil Relaxer, and Organic Root Stimulator.
“Black women have long been the victims of dangerous products specifically marketed to them,” said Crump. “Black hair has been and always will be beautiful, but Black women have been told they have to use these products to meet society’s standards. Companies aggressively misled black women to increase their profits.”
“The fact that these companies targeted Black and Latin women for their own profit motive and without regard to the serious health risks that these hair-straightening products cause is a serious wrong that needs to be corrected,” said Debrosse Zimmermann. “We have commenced this important litigation to seek and obtain justice for those women and their families.”
Chemical hair straighteners typically contain products associated with higher cancer risk, including formaldehyde, metals, phthalates, and parabens, which may be more easily absorbed by the body through scalp burns and abrasions often caused by chemical straighteners.

World Afro Day is celebrated on September 15 worldwide every year. The day celebrates the natural hair of people from black and mixed-race ethnicities, normalizes afros, and prevents discrimination based on hair. 👑👩🏽🦱👨🏾🦱
