Through movement, wellness practices, local vendors, and intentional social experiences, they’re creating spaces where people can connect, grow, and thrive—both individually and together. I just don’t need it anymore.

As I watched the fireworks light up the sky, my kids’ faces glowed with pure joy and amazement. In that moment, I was transported back to my childhood at my grandparents’ house on the Chesapeake Bay.

Every Fourth of July was spent there—through my childhood and well into my twenties.

As a little kid, it was all sparklers, crab legs, fireflies, games of football, and waiting for the huge fireworks show that wrapped up the night. Those memories were simple, magical, and full of connection.

As I got older, those same Fourth of July celebrations became one big party for me and my friends. The crab legs were still there. The fireworks were still spectacular. But somewhere along the way, the tradition became less about making memories and more about having an excuse to drink.

Now, life has come full circle.

My kids are experiencing the kind of Fourth of July I remember from my childhood—and so am I.

Without alcohol in the picture, I’ve found my way back to that place of comfort and presence. Football in the yard. Sparklers in little hands. Dancing. Fireflies. Fireworks. Belly laughs. The things that mattered all along.

And there’s something incredibly comforting about knowing my kids will always experience these moments with a parent who is clear-headed, fully present, and ready to drive them safely home after the last firework fades and the smoke clears.

Happy Sober Fourth. 🇺🇸 Happy Hangover-Free Fifth.

New traditions. Same old nostalgia. ❤️
