A federal judge has ordered the National Park Service and Department of the Interior to restore a slavery exhibit that was removed from the Presidents House in Philadelphia under the Trump administration.

The exhibit, part of Independence National Historical Park, explores the history of slavery during the presidencies of George Washington and John Adams.

Senior Judge Cynthia M. Rufe ruled that all panels, artwork, and video displays must be returned to their January 21, 2026, status and remain fully operable while the lawsuit continues.

The restoration comes after the City of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro sued over the removal, calling for the historical display to be preserved. The ruling underscores ongoing efforts to protect public access to accurate and complete historical narratives at national landmarks.
