This is a color I’ve been dying to try!!! On myself but I know I could never pull it off.

I’m usually terrible about remembering to take before-and-after pictures, but one thing I truly take pride in is building real relationships with my clients.

I love taking the time for longer consultations and asking questions throughout the service to make sure I’m giving people what they actually want — not just what I think looks best. Inspiration pictures are helpful, but we all know hairstylists aren’t magicians. 🪄The biggest difference comes from really listening.

If someone says they hate layers… don’t give them layers.💇
If they ask for bangs, my first question is usually, “Have you ever had them before?” and then, “Are we going through a major life change right now?” 😂
If someone says they just want a trim, then give them a trim. I always like to show what I’d recommend taking off, and most of the time we meet somewhere in the middle. And when someone wants a huge change, I’ll usually ask how long they’ve actually been thinking about it. I would hate for them to regret it tomorrow! 🤦🏼‍♀️

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that color corrections can be some of the hardest services. You can’t always fix everything in one appointment. You don’t always know what products or processes were used before. The best way to figure it out? Ask questions.🧐

I’ve also learned that sometimes we are our own harshest critics. There are days I still get anxious doing another stylist’s hair because I wonder how they would do things differently. But at the end of the day, you have to trust yourself, trust your experience, and do what you do confidently. Sometimes you ask more questions. Sometimes you bounce ideas off each other. Sometimes you learn something new. And sometimes you realize — you do know what you’re doing.🤓

Today I had the pleasure of doing this client’s hair, and through consultation we talked through her current hair, previous color history, and inspiration pictures. She understood that some inspiration photos aren’t always realistic in one appointment, so we decided to focus on softly breaking up her color and making a change that felt achievable and beautiful for her.

With a big chop, fresh color, and a little creative freedom, I was able to help her feel confident and excited about her hair again. Services like this are exactly why I love what I do.🥰

👋 Hi, I’m Holly! Since I’ve been at Christensens for almost a year now I figured I’d do an update! I’ve truly loved this transition. I get to do what I’m passionate about while working alongside an amazing group of women who feel the same way.

💕I’ve been doing hair since 2007, but I knew I wanted to be a hairstylist long before that—back when I was hiding in the bathroom cutting my Barbie’s hair as a kid. Over the years, I’ve learned that this career is about so much more than hair. My clients have become like family, and the best part of my day is hearing their life updates—whether they’re happy or hard. I’m grateful my clients feel comfortable enough to share those moments with me.
