Over the next little while, my posting may be a bit quieter than usual as my family takes time to be together and focus on what matters most. We've had several people ask how they can help.

Mental health has always been important to us, and we know grief doesn't end after the first few days. If you think of us in the weeks or months ahead, please don't hesitate to reach out. A simple "How are you doing?" or a prayer can mean more than you know.

Since we won't be having services, we're simply taking things one day at a time. Your prayers mean the most to us. If anyone is looking for a practical way to help, a meal or a restaurant gift card would be greatly appreciated, as it would give us a little break from cooking while we focus on family.

On June 19, 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, news reached Galveston, TX that the enslaved were now free. Today we celebrate the culture and achievement of African Americans. Today we celebrate freedom!

We believe that we each have the right to love who we love, all year round, not just in June. Pride Month serves as a reminder that love knows no boundaries and that every individual deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and kindness, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Join us as we continue to lean in, as we continue to actively listen and as we continue to learn. Stand with us as we use this month to consistently educate ourselves, become better allies and celebrate the resilience and brilliance of the LGBTQIA+ community.

My birthday month is coming up and I have a small request for my people.

I spend a lot of time being the planner, the one making the reservations, sending the texts, organizing the nights out, and making sure everyone gets together. I love doing it, but this year I want to experience something different.

I am being more intentional this year about asking for what I want and need, so here it is plainly: I want to be invited.

It can be quick, small, huge or over the top. Tea time. Dinner. A random Tuesday link up. Day tripping. A museum. A concert. A walk. A “get dressed, we’re going out” text. I would love for the people in my life to be intentional and make plans with me during the month of June. Consider this me officially entering my “someone else made the plans” era. 😎
