On March 23, 2020, the North Carolina Board of Electrolysis Examiners issued the following statement:

Covid 19 Response

REASON FOR ACTION: On March 10, 2020 The Governor of North Carolina declared a state of emergency to coordinate a response and enact protective measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. COVID-19 is a respiratory disease that can result in serious illness or death. COVID-19, previously unidentified in humans, spreads easily from person to person. Once an outbreak of COVID-19 begins, it is difficult to contain.

The World Health Organization, the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, and the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) have declared COVID-19 a public health threat and emergency. Various levels of State and Federal government have encouraged the practice of "Social distancing" to slow the spread of the disease.

In order to further facilitate efforts towards "social distancing" Governor Cooper announced today that the following businesses should close no later than Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at 5:00 PM.

*Gyms
*Hair and nail salons
*Barber shops
*Movie theaters
*Massage therapy
*Tattooing
*Similar businesses offering activities that run counter to social distancing

While electrolysis and laser hair removal practices were not specifically mentioned, it is clear that our licensees are intended to be covered under this order.

The Board recognizes the hardship that suspension of business activities will have on our licensees, however, firmly believes that we must contribute towards the social isolation efforts that have been directed by Federal and State Government in order to quell the spread of this disease.
