Milia are keratin-filled cysts that form just under the skin. They look like white or yellowish bumps on the surface and are often mistaken for whiteheads. Milia are very common among newborn babies, children and adults.

Why are milia common as we age??
Our skin naturally gets drier, and cell turn over slows down the older we get. So those accumulated skin cells if not exfoliated begin to trap the oil within the pore, closing it off as skin cells continue to thicken above the pores surface.

Milia can appear anywhere on the body, but most common is the eye area. Thick heavy eye creams, makeup, concealer and skin care products containing comedogenic ingredients can reek havoc on the eye area causing milia.

The eye area is very delicate, has limited blood supply and no oil glands to keep this area moist. So using an eye cream specialized for this area to properly absorb, plump, smooth and firm without clogging those pores is key.

The second type of milia involves the clogging of the sweat ducts. This is usually caused by some kind of skin trauma or infection, lifestyle, lack of sleep, smoking, poor personal hygiene, using excessive oil-based beauty products and long-term steroid use.

Advice: DO NOT try removing yourself. You will only be disappointed and leave unwanted marks!!
