If you sit at a desk or drive in your car for long periods of the day your hip flexors are in a shortened position for a long time...Which means they can get TIGHT! ….Our sedentary lifestyles don’t have us fully EXTENDING our hips too often...So stretching your hip flexors on a frequent basis isn’t a bad idea...BUTT! You don’t want to make the mistake of forgetting to strengthen them too. Tight muscles are often also weak muscles..You’ll want to make sure you are STRENGTHENING your hip flexors in your training in both shortened and lengthened positions..But wait, it doesn’t stop there. Don’t think that you might not have some OTHER weaknesses in the area (glutes, core, etc.)…Your hip flexors might not want to “let go” cuz they’re trying to provide some “artificial stability” to make up for some other weak links in the chain..Bottom line: get off your butt more (as often as possible). Stretch and use your full ranges of motion more frequently.
