for years i have struggled with my hair and how insecure it made me feel… my mom started relaxing my hair at a very young age and my curls were ruined, i was made to believe that i was only seen as ‘pretty’ when my hair was bone straight

i started getting braids in 2019 and i felt so beautiful with them and wanted them all the time but never really maintained or took care of my natural hair underneath

my hair was growing and my curls were finally back to their natural pattern after being chemically damaged for years but i still wasn’t a huge fan of them and dreaded doing my hair

i’ve always joked about chopping all my hair off or buzzing it and starting over but never had the courage to do so but last week something came over me and i decided it was time for a change and to embrace and love my natural hair

as black women our hair holds so much weight and the pressure from society to always have your hair slicked back and well kept to be seen as ‘professional’ or ‘worthy’ has always made me hesitant to do anything like this but i actually feel so liberated and so cute and I’m excited for this new natural hair journey 🥰

Hello & welcome to Suay Skin Studio ✨

My name is Jasmyne Sierra and I am a licensed aesthetician of 8 years. Suay (pronounced “soo-i”) means beautiful in Thai

As a biracial woman I embrace all the parts of me and I am so incredibly proud of where I come from. I was raised by my Thai grandmother; she was my best friend and my biggest supporter. The year she passed away was when I decided to begin my journey into aesthetics. She loved anything beauty related. I remember being a child and her always asking me to do her hair or paint her nails; those are my fondest memories with her.

I started my career in the beauty industry in retail cosmetics, as a makeup artist. Although I did love my time as a makeup artist, as someone who has struggled with my own skin and acne journey for years, I became obsessed with learning about skincare ingredients and the science behind healthy skin as opposed to covering it up with makeup

I gained most of my skincare knowledge from working in the top med spas in Chicago over the last 4 years

Upon working at these places I began to notice that there wasn't a lot of care or thought put into treatment planning for skin of color. A lot of providers see skincare as a 'one size fits all' but that is certainly not the case. Skin of color is delicate and needs to be treated as such, it is much more prone to hyperpigmentation and scarring

At Suay, I believe that the most beautiful skin is healthy skin and as an esthetician who specializes in multicultural skincare, I’ve created my brand with one goal in mind: having a safe, approachable space for anyone & everyone to bring their skin concerns
