I’m your reminder that if you’re feeling “off” don’t dismiss it, even minor symptoms you consider normal because you’ve adapted. I hadn’t had bloodwork done in a while so I could have caught this sooner. Thank goodness I had a physical exam Thursday and lab work done. I was called very shortly after that appointment to inform that my Hemoglobin was critically low. Women typically should be at a range of 12.0-15.0 g/dL, mine was 5.3! A level lower than 5.0 can lead to heart failure and death 😳…. I was told to go to the ER immediately. Again, I really didn’t have any symptoms or feel bad. This is as a result of these levels going down over time and my body adapting, otherwise someone with these low of levels should feel lightheaded, dizzy, or even passing out. I appreciate the care received at Delnore Hospital. They took me pretty promptly and I ended up needing to get a blood transfusion (2 units). I was diagnosed with severe anemia and hopefully with this transfusion as well as the iron and vitamin C supplements I’ll be on moving forward I can avoid any severity like this again. A lot of little symptoms I’ve had for years that I thought were related to other things can now be explained so as I said, in the beginning, don’t ignore any little signs your body is giving you even minor because they really could be something major going on inside your body that you aren’t even aware of! To those who knew about this a few days ago, thank you so much for all your well wishes. I’m resting this weekend and hoping to find out that there’s been some improvement when I see the Hematology Doctor next week. 🤞🏼🙏🏼♥️ 🩸💉
