I’ve always hated going out alone!!

The idea of eating dinner by myself made me feel insecure, like everyone was staring at me, judging me.

But when I first moved to Brazil, I didn’t speak Portuguese. I didn’t know anyone. As I sat in my apartment staring out at the beach, watching everyone enjoy themselves, I wanted so badly to go. But I felt paralyzed.

Day after day, I did this. Until one afternoon, it hit me: nothing is keeping you from going except YOU. You’re blocking your own blessings.

So I made myself a deal: go for 30 minutes. If you hate it, you can leave.

Deep down, I knew that if I wanted a new life, I couldn’t keep waiting for someone else to go with me.

So I went.

I sat on the beach when a woman sat beside me. She said something in Portuguese I didn’t understand. We played this game of gestures until I realized: she was asking me to watch her things while she went in the water. She was alone too.

When she came back, she gestured that she’d watch my things. So I went in.

Afterward, she pulled out her phone translator and we started talking. Before I knew it, an hour had passed. About our families, our lives, our dreams.

We took a picture together. I haven’t seen her since, but she reminded me: there is so much life and joy waiting outside your comfort zone. But you have to step out.

When you take the first step, the universe meets you with the rest. When you choose courage over comfort, you get rewarded with a new friend, a new adventure, or a version of yourself you didn’t know existed.

My whole life is the story of stepping outside my comfort zone.

So here’s my question: what would you do if fear wasn’t holding you back?
