I was heading to the recycling bins on a random day in 2019 and saw firsthand how flawed our recycling system is. I caught a sanitation worker emptying my building’s recycling bin in the back of his dump truck (marked for regular waste). Shocked, and subsequently annoyed, I immediately knew that the “act of recycling” was a joke.⁠

As a consumer, you can do everything right: meticulously remove product labels, clean your bottles and jars, and separate recyclable packaging from non-recyclables. But all it takes is one careless act from another to ruin all of your hard work, and thus, the environmental damage continues despite your best efforts. ⁠

As an Esthetician with a business in retail, my skincare products at the time were sold in acrylic plastic packaging; the hardest type of plastic to recycle. I knew I was part of the problem. So I set out to design a skincare line that would address the afterlife of product packaging. After four years of development, I finally introduced my first innovation, the SĒID™ film. It’s a biodegradable film strip made of 100% plant-based ingredients, that delivers skincare products directly to the user’s skin once dissolved. ⁠

In keeping with my promise of sustainable packaging, I opted for a 100% paper-based container for the SĒID™ film strips. Each box, whether successfully recycled or ultimately landfill-bound, is Earth-safe. This makes the recycling experience 100% hassle-free, too. After using the last film strip, simply toss the box in the recycling bin marked for paper waste. And, that’s it!⁠
