Our Story

R.E.S.S.E.T was born from one veteran's dream to change people's perception of stress as a "normal" component in life. With that, he sought out to teach people how they can reduce the external noise that they face every second of every day, so that they can live a more joyful, happy and healthy life.

After his deployment during Katrina relief, Schmid Etienne realized that he was having flash backs. Upon returning home, smells of certain types would give him some of the same negative and fearful feelings of being back in New Orleans. And at times these flashbacks, would feel so real it was like he was there all over again. This led him to question that if a smell could bring about such powerful memories at random, then what would happen if he was capable of controlling his flashbacks by creating specific cues such as a smell, taste, sight or word. The power that sense of smell had on this experience intrigued Schmid. He then questioned, if a smell could bring about such powerful memories at random, then what would happen if he was capable of controlling his flashbacks by creating specific cues such as a smell, taste, sight or word. Combining this vision with positive psychology, neuroscience and emotional intelligence, Schmid Etienne teamed up with co-founder, Lauren Ruckheim, to create R.E.S.S.E.T Studio.

Prior to creating R.E.S.S.E.T Studio, Lauren spent several years in the fast-pace world that is Corporate America. While she thrived professionally, she realized that emotionally she was drowning under intense levels of stress and anxiety. Instead of accepting this as the status quo, she sought to find a solution where she could thrive both professionally and emotionally. To her dismay, most of the help she sought out suggested medication as a way to cope. Not wanting to be dependent on medication for the rest of her professional career and life, Lauren started to investigate other ways to manage stress such as mindfulness, sensory deprivation, and emotional intelligence. This truly led her to a breakthrough! For the first time in her career, she had the tools she needed to effectively manage intense stress levels. Building from these techniques, Lauren joined Schmid in creating R.E.S.S.E.T as a way to share this incredible experience and knowledge with others.

R.E.S.S.E.T strives to teach people that stress should never be synonymous with life. As a company, we have realized that people or employees are the bottom line and are of utmost importance to all organizations and by improving the potential and well-being of each individual, any company WILL thrive.
