Celebrating Juneteenth!
On Juneteenth and every day, we celebrate freedom, justice, and equity for all as we continue to work to advance progress in healthcare and society.
We are delighted to share the latest episode of Skin of Color Savvy, addressing patient empowerment, shared decision-making, and advancing equitable dermatologic care for patients with skin of color.
Hosted by SOCS leader Dr. Elizabeth Kiracofe in conversation with Dr. Avery LaChance and Barry Gardner, this fascinating episode centers on the growing influence of patients in shaping their own care and how clinicians can better partner with them to improve outcomes.
The speakers framed patient empowerment as a shift away from physician-directed care toward active patient participation in treatment decisions — grounded in the principle that "knowledge is power." They emphasized that successful dermatologic care depends not only on clinical expertise but also on trust, education, and meaningful communication.
