In 1997, Estée Lauder bought Aveda for $300 million. And you could feel the formula change immediately.
That was the only natural skincare I knew. And when it changed, I made a decision: I would not use anything on my clients’ faces that I wouldn’t use on my own. So I started making my own skincare. I had to refrigerate it because I didn’t know about preservatives yet. I didn’t know how to bring that process into the treatment room.
So in 1999, I stopped doing facials altogether.
