But one of the most overlooked indicators of fitness and recovery is your Heart Rate Recovery (HRR).
HRR measures how quickly your heart rate drops after exercise. The faster it comes down, the better your cardiovascular fitness and recovery tend to be.
✅ Fast recovery = your body is adapting well to training
✅ Improving HRR over time = your conditioning is getting better
⚠️ Slower recovery can be a sign of fatigue, poor sleep, stress, dehydration, or reduced fitness
The best part? You can test it yourself in just a few minutes.
Get your heart rate up, stop exercising, and see how much it drops after 1 minute.
A drop of:
🔥 30+ bpm = Excellent
👍 20-30 bpm = Good
⚡ 12-19 bpm = Fair
Remember: don’t compare yourself to others. Compare yourself to YOU. The goal is to see improvement over time.
