For centuries, people walked past what they thought was just another hill in the Valley of Mexico. 🌄
No one imagined that beneath layers of earth, plants, and fallen stone, one of the greatest monuments in human history was quietly waiting to be seen again.

The Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan was built around 200 AD, long before the Aztecs ever arrived. When the city was abandoned, time slowly reclaimed it. Rain, wind, and vegetation covered the structure until its true shape disappeared. By the 1800s, even locals believed it was nothing more than a natural mound.

Then came the early 1900s. Archaeologists began removing the layers of soil and rubble — and little by little, the past started breathing again. What emerged wasn’t just a pyramid… it was proof of a civilization so advanced, so organized, and so visionary that they built monuments aligned with the cosmos itself. 🌞✨

Today, when you stand at Teotihuacan, you’re not just looking at stone.
You’re standing on a memory that refused to be erased.
A reminder that even when history is buried, our roots never disappear — they wait to rise again.

Call us sad, call us geeks, whatever. I am really not bothered, but the Stranger Things finale hit Dave and I way harder than we ever expected.

At first we laughed and said it must have triggered some kind of midlife crisis in us. But the more we thought about it the more we realised that was not it at all. It was nostalgia. And honestly… grief. Of a time that no longer exists.

We are 80s and 90s kids. We grew up before the world got quite so wild. Before absolutely everything was online and instant and constantly noisy. Communication was real. People actually talked to each other. Kids knocked for their friends and disappeared for hours. Neighbours chatted over the fences. Communities felt closer. Like a village.

Even with all the monsters and chaos in the show that era somehow still felt safer. Simpler. People were more connected in real life, not just on screens. Friends backed each other. They cheered each other on instead of tearing each other down like everyone seems to do today.

I think that is why Stranger Things resonated so deeply. It did not just tell a story. It reminded us of a time we miss. A time that does exist but only in memories now. And that realisation feels a lot like grief. Dave and I went to the same school, lived on the same block and got the same bus every day. And although we did not get together until later in life, we still share the love for that era. A time when everything felt simpler.

I doodled this on the iPad this afternoon after finishing the finale because I wanted to capture the heart of it all. The friendships. The bond that could not be broken. A simple game that brought them together. Kids who fought for one another and stood side by side no matter what.

Watching the kids grow up on screen also stopped me in my tracks. It happened so fast. Having kids of my own makes that hit even harder. Childhood flies by and you do not realise it until you are looking back. It makes me want to slow down and really soak it all in because it is gone in a flash. This is something I want to try and do more in 2026.

Our own boys have watched some of the show with us too and loved it. They love the nostalgia and almost seem a little envious that we got to live in a time when things were simpler and we were not so reliant on technology. They are curious about Dungeons and Dragons, especially Ted who collects mythical creatures. I love that they have been able to share it with us. Obviously there were some episodes where things got a bit dark that they could not watch, but they have loved the storyline and I think the friendships, the bravery and the adventure really resonated with them too.

It might just be a TV show but it taught us so much. About friendship. About loyalty. About holding onto each other. And reminding us to be more present and soak up each nice moment we are blessed with. I will always hold it close to my heart.

I’m in mourning.
Regardless of how anyone feels about the finale, I’ve been genuinely depressed since it aired — and I know I’m not alone. So much ended so quickly, and it feels like we were forced to say goodbye before we were ready.
I want to re-binge the whole series, but knowing what’s coming makes it hit even harder. This show is going to be really hard to get over. I don’t want to start another show yet — I’m just not ready.
I wish the epilogue had been longer, but it is what it is. El ended up wherever she did, the gang is grown and moving on, and that’s just… life.
Still hurts though.
