I tested acidic vs alkaline demi formulas so you don’t have to. 😉

Acidic formulas = sheer tights
→ soft deposit, allows the base to show through, and enhances shine.

Alkaline formulas = opaque tights
→ fuller pigment, blends up to 75% of gray, and can lift up to 1 level.

💡 Quick Tips:
• Acidic formulas → subtle toning and maintaining dimension
• Alkaline formulas → stronger coverage, more visible saturation, and light lift when needed

⭐️ Reminder: Starting base ALWAYS matters. Adjust fillers in the formula or fill prior to coloring as needed.

Alkaline vs acidic demi formulas aren’t about one brand.. they’re universal principles every stylist can use. 🤍 Understanding the difference leads to more predictable results and confidence behind the chair, no matter the color line. 😌

This is a bittersweet one for me..

After a lot of thought, I’m stepping into a new chapter and moving into a private shared suite starting February 4th.. While I’m so excited for what’s ahead, leaving House of Color was not an easy decision.. This salon has truly been home.. a space that shaped me, supported me, and gave me so much love.

This move allows me to create a more personal, private, and elevated experience, while also being a more sustainable and affordable step for me as a business owner. It’s a change that gives me more scheduling flexibility, freedom, and room to grow.. which means I can continue showing up fully for my clients.

3. If I wasn’t a hairstylist, I’d probably do social work or event planning!
4. My favorite part of doing hair is making my clients feel beautiful while offering a safe space for them to clear their head! 🤔☁️
5. I rewatch early 2000s dramas every fall! Rn it’s Gilmore girls. 🤭

I wanted to share a recent experience I had with a service trade. As a local hairstylist in Colorado Springs, I’m a big believer in collaborating and supporting each other, so I was super excited to work with Kaylin Powers…
We agreed on an exchange of services. Myself providing hair services and her providing branding photos of me for my business. I initially didn’t know when I would need my photos done by, but as soon as I knew, I immediately reached out. I prioritized getting her in as soon as I could for my services and it’s been 6 weeks since I provided the agreed upon services..
(On October 2nd for a $235 value)

After I provided my part, she stopped responding. Again, it has been 6 weeks since I provided that service and a month since I’ve heard back from her. She has been ACTIVELY on facebook ignoring me and viewing my stories. I have screenshots of everything. I messaged her multiple times on messenger and over text message which were all delivered. The fifth message, I expressed a desire to switch photographers and find a way to settle payment. I sent 4 payment requests after that. My mistake was not putting a card on file or having a signed contract so I will take accountability for that.. I was trusting and hopeful. However between business owners, this is absolutely unacceptable imo.

I know that things happen, and sometimes communication gets lost, but if you’re considering any business trades or partnerships, make sure there’s a clear plan and follow-through on both sides. I’m still hoping her and I can resolve this, but until then, just sharing this as a reminder to protect your work and time!
