❓What are malar bags really... and why are they so hard to treat?
Let’s clarify something first:
this is not just “fat under the eyes.”
Malar bags (also called festoons) are a structural phenomenon formed at the level of the cheekbone - and they behave very differently from tear troughs or classic under-eye puffiness.
Here’s what actually creates them:
👉A fixed boundary
The orbicularis retaining ligament (ORL) acts like an anatomical “wall.” It separates zones and limits tissue movement.
👉Fluid gets trapped. 👉Fat compartments shift
The malar fat pad and deeper structures (like SOOF) change
in position and volume over time, altering support.
🤷🏼‍♀️The result?
A visible “ridge” over the cheekbone — not because
