Since I was at least as young as 14, I can only remember wanting to become a hair and makeup artist for my career. I remember feeling terrible that my family was poorer and I couldnt always afford quality hair care and makeup. I always wanted to offer others the ability to feel beautiful where I didnt always feel like I could offer that to myself. After 3 semesters of college and 18 months of cosmetology school, I did just that! And for the last 5 amazing years it is what i looked forward to doing every day. three years ago, i began experiencing health complications due to what I would later find out is Lupus (and a couple other things). Unfortunately, I can no longer offer services consistently up to par with what I've come to expect from myself due to my worsening health. I am making the conscious decision, for the sake of both my body and my clients, to step away from hair for the time being. I apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. I will still be available occasionally for makeup services on the weekends. July 1st will be my last day at Wildflower Salon. I want to personally thank , , and .steve for their years of continuous and undying support for me over the years.

Informing clients about the differences in their hair- Often clients right on the cusp of curls and waves assume their hair is frizzy or unmanageable; when in reality there's a CURL PATTERN just waiting to come out! This client had no clue her hair could get this bouncy and structured. Teach your clients the skills they need to get the results the to want at home, and they will trust you in the salon even more! Recently I had some amazing photos taken of me by the absolutely incredible .photo

I have had several comrades and other beauty industry professionals voice their confusion about WHY I had new photos taken for work. And the answer is simply because my image has changed since I first entered this crazy cosmetology world, and I need to present myself in a way that reflects who I am to potential and loyal clients alike. So many times a client has booked with me and never returned SOLELY based on my appearance. My work should be able to speak for itself.

When I'm working my worth is in my skills, NOT how I look. Often the only time I am preforming optimally is when clients allow me trust based on that skill; completely discard any preconceived notions about my attire, skin color, hairstyle, etc. Additionally, I'm not JUST a hairstylist. I am a makeup artist, a colorist, a curly hair enthusiast, a waxing technician, and many, MANY more things.

Plus, I look HELLA cute in these pictures. I sewed the apron myself and it is fully functional for my job as well. I am so happy about how Alex was able to completely capture my spirit and personality in these photos. And I can't wait to see YOU in my chair. π

Please remember this when booking appointments. I usually can give you a time frame, but sometimes I have no idea because of how much there is to do.
Think back to the way hair was back in the day. You ever look at your family album and say β wow, momβs hair looks crazy β ? Well yes it does. Compared to the way we do hair today at least. Back in the day having their hair styled the way they did was a total trend. Having blocks of color and hair that was not toned - was THE thing to do. There wasnβt any better because better did not exist. I often hear clients say β my stylist took βXβ amount of time to do my hair. I was in there for SOOO long. To be honest, some of these times are a little insane. But a service being 3-5 hours long is not longer a surprise. In fact someone getting you out in 1-2 hours raises an eyebrow. Now, there may be a reason why itβs taking so long. Not all stylist have assistants. Some prefer to have full control the whole way through. Some fairly new stylist might take longer than usual because THEY ARE NEW. Either way, hair takes time. Unless you want to be left with your pure lift, have a harsh grow out or look the way our moms did in the 70βs / 80βs / 90βs β¦ sit there and wait. You will not longer be going in for ANY beauty service and be out in 30 minutes - 1 hour. Learn to take the day to pamper yourself and relax! No matter if you are a working woman, stay at home mother or a gal in school, we all deserve a break so take it! β¨
