It seems like alllll the germs are making their rounds lately. 🤧🦠

So, I’m curious… what’s everyone reaching for this time of year?

Elderberry? Echinacea? Oil of Oregano? A big ol’ cup of herbal tea? Or are you just crossing your fingers and hoping for the best? 😂

Let’s hear it! 🌿✨

🐦‍⬛✨ A Little Wednesday Wisdom from the Crow’s Table!

When I first introduced the Crow’s Table at Wild Wisdom, I envisioned a little place where people could exchange treasures, share curiosities, and maybe discover something they never knew they needed.

Books, crystals, jewelry, oddities, little trinkets. Things that might not mean much to one person but could be an absolute treasure to someone else.

And while I’ve loved watching the table take on a life of its own, I’ve realized I never really established any guidelines for how it should work. 😂

So, I’ve given the Crow’s Table a little refresh, added some new treasures, and introduced a bit of Crow’s Table etiquette!

The idea is still simple:

Take a treasure. Leave a treasure.

Not necessarily something of equal monetary value, but something exchanged with intention. Something another person might be genuinely delighted to find.

I mean, even crows are a little particular about the treasures they collect. 😉

Because the magic isn’t just in what you take, it’s in what you leave behind. 🖤

Now, I’m curious…

Have you ever exchanged something at the Crow’s Table? Found a little treasure you loved? Is this something you’d like to see continue at Wild Wisdom?

I’d love to hear your thoughts! After all, this little corner of the shop is meant to be something we all get to enjoy. 🐦‍⬛✨

10/20/2026

Sometimes I look around the shop and realize just how much goodness we’ve managed to squeeze into this little space. 😂🌿

Herbs, soaps, salves, teas, tinctures, treasures, and a little bit of everything in between.

There’s a lot to explore around here, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Happy Tuesday, friends! We’re here until 6! ✨

🌿 Herb of the Week: Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) 🌿

While most plants are winding down for the season, this remarkable little shrub is just getting started!

Witch Hazel is one of nature’s autumn surprises, producing delicate, ribbon-like yellow flowers just as the leaves begin to fall. But beyond its unusual blooming season, witch hazel has a long history of medicinal use, folklore, and a little bit of woodland magic. ✨

🌱 Medicinal Uses

Witch hazel has been used for generations, particularly in traditional North American herbal medicine, where its leaves and bark were valued for their astringent properties.

✨ Skin Soothing: Traditionally used to help calm minor skin irritation, itching, and inflammation.

✨ Astringent Properties: Rich in tannins that help temporarily tighten tissues and reduce excess surface oil.

✨ Hemorrhoid Relief: Witch hazel preparations are commonly used externally to soothe itching and discomfort associated with hemorrhoids.

✨ Antioxidant Compounds: Contains naturally occurring polyphenols, including tannins, which have demonstrated antioxidant activity in laboratory studies.

🌙 Energetics

In traditional Western herbalism, witch hazel is considered cooling and drying, making it especially useful when heat, irritation, or excess moisture are present.

Energetically, it’s associated with protection, boundaries, clarity, and restoration.

There’s something rather poetic about a plant that waits until the world grows quiet to bloom.

🍂 Culinary Uses

Unlike many of the herbs we’ve explored, witch hazel isn’t a culinary herb.

Its leaves and bark contain substantial amounts of tannins, giving them a strongly astringent taste.

Witch hazel is primarily valued for external preparations rather than food or beverages. Commercial witch hazel extracts should never be consumed.

🫙 DIY: Witch Hazel & Rose Cooling Compress

Sometimes the simplest herbal preparations are the most useful!

You’ll need:

* 2 tbsp alcohol-free witch hazel extract intended for skin use
* 2 tbsp pure rose hydrosol
* A soft cotton cloth or reusable cotton pad
* A small clean bowl

Directions:

1. Combine the witch hazel and rose hydrosol in a small bowl.
2. Place the mixture in the refrigerator for a few minutes to chill.
3. Soak your cloth or cotton pad in the mixture.
4. Gently apply to areas of intact skin that could use a little cooling comfort.
5. Relax and allow the compress to work its magic!

Make fresh for each use, avoid the eyes and broken skin, and discontinue if irritation occurs.

🌿 A Little Wild Wisdom

Ever wonder how witch hazel got its name?

Despite its rather magical-sounding name, the “witch” in witch hazel is often traced to the Old English word wice, meaning pliable or bendable.

Its flexible branches were historically used as divining rods in the practice of dowsing, where people believed they could locate underground water.

And here’s another fascinating fact!

Witch hazel produces its delicate yellow flowers in autumn, often after much of its foliage has fallen. Its seed capsules can eventually eject seeds several feet away!

A little bit of summer sunshine, bottled up for the dreary days ahead. 🌼✨

These beautiful new terrarium ornaments just arrived at Wild Wisdom, and they’re every bit as charming as they look!

Each one is thoughtfully crafted with real dried flowers and moss, creating a tiny little garden that can be enjoyed all year long. 🌿

Because who says we have to leave all the flowers behind when summer ends? 😉
