As I listen to leaders from around the world, on what to expect and to help us at Rosebud Woman plan accordingly, the most transparent communication seems to be coming from German chancellor Angela Merkel. She pulled no punches in her nationwide address: until there is a vaccine or a cure, this is the new normal. Months. Not a few weeks. She told Germans that this was the biggest challenge the country faced since WW2, that they needed to do their part to keep each other healthy. It was especially poignant, in a culture that reveres grandparents, to hear her say, to keep the children away from them for the time being, to communicate digitally during this window, in order to protect the elders from infection.

I'd like to point out a few local miracles: In Los Angeles, the air is clean. In fact, worldwide, the earth is rapidly repairing itself. The dolphins are back in the Venice Canals. More than 6,000 homeless (which, as in many urban areas, is a pervasive and devastating mental health, domestic violence, addiction and distribution-of-wealth quadruple punch issue) have been housed in shelters or hotels. You can hear the birds. There are no sirens, presumably because there are no car accidents. All of our neighbors, many of whom who use to leave before dawn and come home after dark, now wave from the porches as we walk the dog, and this morning we were singing with each other over the fences. One friend messaged me saying she felt "like the boot was off her throat to always be doing and competing", another said she "doesn't want to go back to normal". Does this resonate for any of you?
