So this is 37 🎂 another year older but another year wiser.

To My Valued Friends, Guests, and Family,

I am writing to inform you that I have made the difficult decision to close JRB Hair Co. effective immediately. I know this abrupt news may shock you terribly, so I apologize. Upon receiving this news, you’re probably experiencing a range of emotions, and very few of them are pleasant, and for that, I understand. Over the last six years, my dream has always been to provide an experience of love, acceptance, a safe place to dish the tea, and some damn fine hair to go with it. Each of you has helped me live that dream for over half a decade, and I’ll eternally be grateful. I’ve helped celebrate and mourn alongside many of my guest’s most significant life milestones and shared my achievements, goals, and ambitions with you all. With that in mind, this decision was not made lightly and gave me a great deal of personal anguish. It is one I have struggled to come to terms with as well.

At this point, I’m sure you’re wondering why I have chosen to make such a profound and altering decision, and I agree that I owe you an explanation. As many of you know, I have been commuting to Corona from San Diego for three years. While the drive by itself is not the reason for the decision, it has taken a tremendous toll on my vehicle and my physical and emotional health. Keeping that in mind, I was approached by a beauty school in San Diego looking for an Educator not long ago. Upon hearing their offer, I decided to accept their position and will be turning the page to a new chapter much closer to home in my career. While I hope you can understand why I have made the decision I have, I hope you also know that when debating between the two, there have been a lot of sleepless nights, a lot of tears, and a lot of thought behind it and it was never made lightly or without thinking of the feelings and emotions of all my guests who have become so much more like my friends and family over the years.

While I’m sure many of you will reach out in the coming days and weeks expressing either disappointment, understanding, or congratulations, keep in mind that you’re most likely not the only one doing so and that I’m human. Remember that closing this chapter of my life has been extremely emotionally difficult for me, and try to understand that I may not respond right away. However, on a lighter note, not all is gloom and doom for this announcement. Once the shock wears off and to ease the transition of finding a new stylist, I am happy to share your current color formulations so you can give them to your new stylist so they know where to pick up where I’m leaving off. I’m also happy to provide suggestions of some local stylists who I think would make an excellent fit for you based on your personality, hair goals, and current services. For either a stylist recommendation or your color formula or if you wish to reach out with concerns or thoughts please do so at [email protected] to ensure those messages don’t get lost in the chaos. Lastly, the school informed me during the hiring process that should I wish to use their facilities after hours to service guests, I’m welcome to do so. So while I’m not sure about the specifics yet, if you just can't bring yourself to change stylists, it will be an option for you to come to Poway and continue seeing me once I have established a working routine at the school.

With all my love,
-Jay

I Love My Job.

I love being a therapist when you need it.

I love making you laugh with stories from my life.

I love the special relationship we build as you become a regular.

But the part of my job I love the most is when I turn the chair around and catch a glimpse of the happiness in your eyes as you see your hair for the first time after a change.

literally said she could cry she was so happy when she first saw her new look. That is probably the biggest compliment you can ever give your stylist.

Tips are fantastic, continued support for our businesses is amazing, but nothing compares to the feeling of elation I get from seeing you all so excited and loving yourself and hair a little more because of me.

Thank you for helping me build JRB Hair Co. into what it is and for allowing me to do what I love each day.

I almost didn’t become a hairstylist😱.

For over half of my life I held a secret from everyone I knew and even sometimes myself. In my mind admitting I wanted to be a hairstylist would be a red alarm that would blast the🚪 to that closet wide open.

So I followed a different path. Later in life, I learned a valuable lesson that it’s okay to be me 🏳️‍🌈.

Now several years later I own a business where I can be my honest self each day in an industry that spreads beauty and love in a very turbulent world. For that, I am eternally grateful to each guest who shares my or with me.

I know June can seem like rainbows have thrown up everywhere and can be somewhat annoying but I can only imagine the young boy version of myself growing up feeling acceptance instead of shame. So that being said Happy Pride Month and to any LGBTQ+ guests my space is a safe space where you can be you and leave feeling beautiful ❤️.

How many different shampoos are in your bathroom?

Chances are IF you have more than one it’s only because you liked a scent or thought the purple shampoo was necessary for your blonde hair.

Rarely if ever when I ask a client this question do they have all the types to give them salon fresh hair every day.

Each person will be slightly different based on their individual needs but everyone should have a Clarifying Shampoo, a daily shampoo, and a purple shampoo if you’re a blondie.

Why in the world does anyone need 3 different shampoos, you’re probably asking?

1. Clarifying shampoos break down product build-up on the scalp, and they help strip the natural metals in your tap water off your hair.

I recommend a wash with this every four weeks.

2. Daily shampoos target your everyday needs. Hair is dry? Use a moisture shampoo. Hair is damaged? Use a protein based shampoo. Etc etc.

3. Purple shampoo. We’ve had the discussion already on how to use this shampoo but generally speaking you should only need it after about 4 weeks after seeing your stylist to help fight brass between visits. Using it too much has the opposite effect and can make the hair seem dull and dry.

As a reminder….

As of today I am currently on vacation and will be out of the country. I will not be responding to any inquiries related to appointments until I return on 6/18. All appointments requests will be reviewed after that date.

I want to be blonde 👱‍♀️

So did she. Scroll ➡️ for before.

Anytime a guest tells me they want to go BLONDE. I let them know exactly what that means:

💫Investing in quality shampoo&conditioner.
💫Use a heat protectant spray anytime you even think of touching heat to your hair.
💫Toner fades. To keep this blonde looking perfect a toner only appt is needed in between highlight appointments.
💫Use your purple shampoo only when necessary. It will NOT make you blonder. What it will do is minimally tone some warmth once your toner has faded to get you through until your toner refresh appointment.
💫Bi-weekly at home treatments. My favorites are alternating #3 & #8.
💫Consistent root touch ups for a look like this you want to be in my chair every 8 weeks.

What you do at home in between salon appointments is just as important as what I do the day of your visit. Blonde is one of the most customizable, timeless colors, but it’s work to upkeep it.

Feel free to drop any of your blonde questions in the comments below and I’m happy to answer them!

Tomorrows Mothers Day🌸

I wanted to take a second since everyone will be busy tomorrow to say Happy Mothers Day to all my guests you ladies are incredible.

To me, a mother (including my own) is the strongest, bravest, loving type of woman I know. I’m sure your kids feel the same about you. As you do about your moms.

The bond between mother and child is special and unlike any other. For me, when something great happens she’s the first I’m excited to call and tell. When something bad happens she’s the first to roll up her sleeves and throw hands 👊 to whoever did it for me.

My mother shaped me into the man I am today as many of you will shape your children into the adults they become.

I hope tomorrow you’re celebrated to the utmost for all that you do. Again from me to you, Happy Mothers Day❤️

How Do I Book an Appt?!

The best way to reserve your spot is by following the link in my bio. From there you can select your service request and it will show you my complete availability.

💫You don’t have to wait for me to read, and respond to find out I don’t have that date available.

💫You can schedule your appointment 24/7.

💫Best of all you don’t have to spend time out of your busy schedule playing phone tag bouncing back days and times until we find one that matches your schedule, instead you can see it in just a couple of clicks.

But what if I don’t know what service to request?

💫 When you submit your request it sends me a notification to confirm. This is so I can ensure the request best matches your needs and allows me to reach out to you in the case I need more information.

OR

💫 You can also Email me @
📧 [email protected]
Text, Instagram, and Facebook messages sometimes get lost or overlooked.

Why choose me?!

These days it’s not hard to find a talented colorist or extensionist. Go ahead, search the tag and you’re sure to find a dozen other great colorist.

So what sets me apart?

💫 I don’t “double-book” the time you reserve is solely booked for you. Allowing me to give my complete undivided attention to you and you alone.

💫 My consultations are thorough explaining the pros and cons of every color or extension decision that is made. Ensuring your understanding and satisfaction throughout the process.

💫 All the products in my studio are vegan, cruelty free, and focus on leaving your hair healthier and shinier than before your service.

💫 Lastly, I’ve been told I give one heck of a head massage during the shampoo. Which we all know is the single best part.
