Hair Traffic and Bundle Box shares priceless memories with women as they are made over during their trying battle with cancer. Although they're hair may be lost, they are hopeful, until the battle is won.

“This gift means a lot to me because it’s a gift from GOD and my family whom I love so much. It made me realize that there are people out there who do care and understand when a woman loses her hair, it makes them feel a certain way, but this wig will give me my confidence back.”

LaTerrier Robinson, a resident of Atlanta, Georgia, is the first Hair with Hope recipient. Robinson was diagnosed with leukemia August 2016. When her doctor initially informed her of her test results, her immediately thoughts centered around her husband, Mario, and 16-year-old son, Mario Jr.

“I was thinking about my life and my family, like what would happen if I was gone,” she said. In addition to dealing with the normal symptoms of leukemia like fatigue and fevers, Robinson’s long, healthy hair began to fall out as she underwent chemotherapy and radiation.

“I know I’m still beautiful without the hair even though I miss my hair so much,” she said.

When she found out she would receive a free custom wig through the Hair with Hope program, she said it lifted her spirit. In addition to the custom wig and makeover session, the company set up a GoFundMe page for Robinson at https://www.gofundme.com/hair-with-hope-4-women-with-cancer . The money will help her family offset its mounting medical expenses.

For so many women battling cancer and undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments, losing their hair within the first two weeks becomes a reality. They are often left with three options: shave their hair, maintain their thinning hair as best as they can, or wear a wig until their hair grows back.

“Worrying about their hair should be the last thing on their minds,” says CEO Celica Bailey. “Our goal in launching Hair with Hope is to build the confidence of these women. They are already going through so much, and if we can help them maintain a piece
of themselves as they undergo such a courageous journey, why wouldn’t we?”

In June 2017, the “Hair with Hope” program launched. According to Bailey, purchasing a wig online or at a local hair shop can present its own set of challenges. “Oftentimes, the wigs are inexpensive and unattractive, or they can run upwards of $1,500 a unit."

Hair with Hope is a collaborative effort. While Hair Traffic and Bundle Box provide the hair and materials needed to make the wig, they partner with a stylist who create and style the wig, makeup artist, and professional photographer or videographer in the recipient’s city for a glam makeover. The stylist will tailor the wig to each woman’s desired length and style, which ranges from sleek and straight to tight curls.

“If we can do one thing to make the ordeal easier to cope for, we will,” says Bailey, who has lost loved ones to cancer. “I am emphatic for what these women and their families go through during this period.”
