It's that time of year to remind folks to work on their Shadow Self.

Shadow Work ... sounds spooky, right? Well, it is that time of year. But shadow work doesn't have anything to do with esoteric or even spooky things! It actually stems from the work of Carl Jung!

• Ego - The conscious mind, thoughts, emotions, and memories we have in awareness.
• Persona - Our outward public expression of our personality.
• Shadow - The purely emotional aspect of our personality that lies in opposition to the ego.
• Anima/Animus - Qualities of our personality that belong to individuals of the opposite gender.
• Self - The authentic self before life imposes weird conformity rules.

The point of working with the shadow was made by Jung when he said, "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate."

When we work on our shadow self, we are less likely to engage in destructive behaviors, we have better boundaries with those around us, our relationships are better because we better understand and accept ourselves and others, our communication skills improve, and our physical health improves because we are not carrying the types of psychic pain that creates inflammatory damage in the body.

This, of course, should be done on an ongoing basis, not just around Halloween, but I figured it was a good time to remind folks to work on their shadow selves.
