Cupping Therapy and Trigger Point Therapy are two techniques we use during Sports Massage Therapy to help release tension, improve mobility, and support recovery.

Cupping Therapy works by using suction to gently lift the skin and underlying tissue. Instead of pressing down into the muscle like traditional Massage, the cups create a pulling effect that helps increase blood flow, reduce restriction, and bring fresh circulation into tight or overworked areas.

This can be helpful for people dealing with back tension, shoulder tightness, neck stiffness, hip restriction, soreness from training, or that heavy “locked up” feeling from sitting, stress, or repetitive movement.

Trigger Point Therapy works by focusing on tight, sensitive spots inside the muscle. These areas can create pain directly where they are located, but they can also refer pain to other areas of the body.

For example, tension in the neck, shoulders, and upper traps can sometimes contribute to headaches. Tightness in the hips, glutes, and low back can affect how the pelvis moves and how the lower back feels.

During Trigger Point Therapy, focused pressure is applied to specific areas to help the muscle relax, reduce tension, and improve movement. It is not about just pressing harder. It is about finding the right spot, using the right pressure, and giving the nervous system time to release.

When Cupping Therapy and Trigger Point Therapy are combined with Sports Massage, the goal is to help your body move better, feel lighter, and recover more effectively.

Tightness is usually not random. Your body is giving you feedback.

At Relax and Get Results Sports Massage Therapy, we focus on the muscles, restrictions, and movement patterns that may be contributing to the way you feel so we can help you get back to moving, training, and living with less tension.

Performance is not just built in the gym.

It is built in the recovery work you do when nobody is watching.

As athletes, it is easy to focus only on training harder, lifting heavier, running faster, pushing through pain, and chasing the next goal. But if your body is constantly tight, restricted, sore, or compensating, eventually that performance starts to break down.

Stretching and Bodywork are not extras.

They are part of the process.

When your hips are tight, your low back usually feels it.
When your shoulders and chest are locked up, your neck and upper back usually take the stress.
When your calves, hamstrings, glutes, and hip flexors are not moving well, your speed, power, mobility, and recovery can all suffer.

The goal is not just to feel better for a day.

The goal is to help your body move the way it is supposed to move, recover more efficiently, and stay ready for the demands of your sport, your workouts, and your lifestyle.

Stretching helps maintain mobility.
Bodywork helps release tension, improve circulation, reduce restrictions, and support better movement patterns.

The athletes who last are not always the ones who train the hardest.

They are the ones who take care of their body consistently.

Do not wait until something hurts to start paying attention.

Make stretching, recovery, and Bodywork part of your routine now so your body can keep performing at the level you expect from it.

Train hard. Recover harder.

DID YOU KNOW WE CAN HELP RELIEVE YOUR TMJ PAIN?

Temporomandibular joint disorders or TMD is more commonly referred to as simply TMJ after the joint itself. This is the joint that connects your mandible, or lower jaw, to your skull just under your ears. Problems with this joint or the muscles in the face can lead to pain in this area. An injury that affects the lower jaw, such as whiplash, can be one cause as well as grinding of the teeth, the soft cushion in the joint moving, arthritis, or stress.

TMJ is more common for women than men and seems to affect more people between the ages of 20 and 40. The condition causes extreme discomfort and pain that can become chronic if not addressed.

Symptoms include:

•Pain in the face, jaw joint, neck, and shoulders especially when chewing
•Difficulty opening the mouth wide
The jaw sticking in an open or closed position
•Popping, clicking, or grating sounds with jaw movement, which may or may not be painful
Tired facial muscles
•Trouble chewing or pain while chewing
Top and bottom teeth not fitting together properly
•Facial swelling
•Headaches in the temporal area of the head or dizziness
•Earaches, plugged feeling in the ears, or hearing problems
•Ringing in the ears, which is also known as Tinnitus

MASSAGE FOR TMJ

Massage therapy works by targeting trigger points along the body. These are what we often refer to as knots when we are experiencing aches and pains. By putting pressure on these points it can relieve the pain the patient is experiencing.

For jaw pain, the targeted muscle is called the masseter muscle. It is the muscle that you use primarily for chewing that is located on the sides of your face. When it is tight, from stress or injury, it can contribute to TMJ pain as well as the grinding of teeth. Releasing the tension in this muscle can be one of the remedies to help alleviate these problems.

Of course the most relaxing way to alleviate tension in your facial muscles is to make an appointment with a skilled massage therapist.
Call us today to find out if you are a candidate for TMJ massage.
