Hi friends! My car was broken into over the weekend while on site at a photo shoot. My kit and brushes along with my hair kit, among many other things I was using to style the shoot were stolen. Insurance will not be covering any of the stolen property or the broken window. For this reason my sweet friend and photographer Brooke has set up a gofundme, in hopes that I can get back to work making up faces again hopefully very soon.
TIA for sharing and supporting. ♥️
Love,
Ruby

Down Syndrome Awareness Day. ❤ Never was I more *aware* of how blessed I am to do what I do then when I got to do makeup, hair and assist in wardrobe styling for this gorgeous young lady and my sweet friend, Miss Lilianna for Faerie Magazine. She blew us all away with her beauty on this shoot and I still tear up when I see this image. Photo by WinterWolf Studios and accessories by Lalabug Designs and Folk Owl. 😍

Have been discussing this on a private MAC artist forum all morning and I just felt impressed to do a little write up on my page about this. Yes, make-up is fun and the art of make-up is more explored and embraced by people from all walks of life more now than ever before. We use it to express ourselves, to enhance our beauty and to give us an outlet for creativity and often, to make extra money, and for years in my case, a living. But, the bottom line is, it isn't just all play or simply getting dolled up. If you are a person practicing make-up, you MUST understand fully; health protocol. And, what's more, if you are a person getting your make-up done by someone else, I beg of you to please seek out a trained professional who has been taught proper health procedures, shelf life standards and how to sanitize their brushes, products, kits and how to replenish their product in a timely manner. This is VITAL to your health. I've been in this industry for 15 years and do not take it lightly. Every time I do a make-up job I know I have to be on top of my game for every single person no matter how comfortable I am in my art now after literally doing thousands of make-up applications, or how tired I am at the end of a long day. Often I am often in a position where I am on a time crunch, but I set out to ensure that each and every person gets the most professional service. For each person to feel beautiful and comfortable. It's so important to me that I know how to do my best for every single eye shape, skin color, age group, skin texture, ect. while still maintaining that every product and brush is sanitized and safe. This profession has been diluted by the over usage of social media and while it is indeed a fun form of art, it is still, dealing with the eyes, nose, mouth and skin. These are all sources of germs, disease and bacteria. My kit is gone over more times a year than I can count, my hands are constantly dry and peeling from hand washing. (Even acrylic nails won't stay on my hands!!! lol ) The friends that I have that have been in the industry for many years and are seasoned artists, take this just as seriously as I do. We went through training and certifications and put the time in to make sure that we know how to deal with a cold sore, a blemish or even down to a single brush, shadow or sponge. It is imperative to maintain this standard for our careers and for our clients. I am asking you to please help artists like myself to not get a bad rapport by choosing to hire people who have the training and knowledge to back this skill up!!!! I have recently decided to start selling a line from home (LimeLight by Alcone) and I have pledged to train everyone who signs up under me to not only know how to properly demonstrate the product but how to ensure that the health part of our demos are of the utmost priority!!!! I hope this will be a gentle and loving reminder to remember your health when it comes to even the most "fun" things in life and I pray that this opens up all of our eyes and reminds us how the make-up industry is something you should choose carefully on, like we would choose our doctors, dentists or hair stylists.. because after all, beauty and health go hand in hand.
XOXO
