Tomorrow many Dayton salons and barbershops will have the ability to reopen to the public, under strict health and safety protocols established by the Governor of Texas. The capacity of these facilities has been restricted and requires that stylists/barbers/technicians maintain at least 6 feet of separation from each other and only service one client at a time. You may have to wait to enter a business, and please maintain safe social distancing of at least 6 feet from other individuals. Please do not bring anyone with you to your appointment.
Because of the proximity between individuals in these facilities, stringent compliance with health protocols is strongly recommended. Salons and shops have stricter guidelines than the restaurants and shops that opened last week.
Per the health protocols issued by the Governor: Face masks or fabric face coverings should always be worn by employers, employees, contractors, and clients while inside the salon/shop, even if individuals are practicing social distancing. Clients receiving services for which a mask may not be worn (shaving) should wear a mask or face covering before and after they receive the service. Salons and barbershops are required to notify all clients within 24 hours if any employees/contractors test positive for COVID-19, be prepared to provide contact information.
The Governor of Texas also issued minimum health protocols for customers to follow. These include self-screening and staying home if you have any symptoms consistent with COVID-19. These protocols also require washing your hands or using hand sanitizer upon entering a business, interacting with employees, touching items, and paying for your purchase.
Businesses are allowed to implement stricter health protocols which may include temperature screening or refusal of service.
Over the next few weeks, you’ll most likely see your friends and neighbors out and about, it’s important to maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet from individuals who are not part of your immediate household. Now is the time for you to make prudent decisions about your health and safety, by maintaining social distancing and patronizing businesses that operate in accordance with the established health protocols set by the Governor. You can read the protocols for both businesses and consumers online at Gov.Texas.Gov/OpenTexas.
Health protocols may be changed by the Office of the Governor. The City of Dayton, Texas the Dayton Community Development Corporation and the Dayton Chamber Of Commerce will keep you and our businesses advised of any changes. Some businesses may choose to remain closed to the public, please support them through buying gift cards or pre-purchasing services. Now more than ever, we need to support all of our local businesses.

On March 31, Gov. Greg Abbott signed Executive Order GA-14, ordering that people and businesses should follow CDC and Presidential guidelines by practicing good hygiene, environmental cleanliness, and sanitation, implementing social distancing, and working from home if possible.

Additional facilities are closed. Governor Abbott had previously closed massage establishments on March 20. Under the new order, barber and cosmetology shops regulated under Chs. 1601, 1602, and 1603, Occupations Code, and laser hair removal facilities regulated under Chapter 401, Sections 501-522, Health and Safety Code must close by 12:01 a.m. April 2, 2020.
