Skincare Routine From Winter to Spring 05/11/2024

Skincare Routine From Winter to Spring

Hi there, it's Araceli. As you may have noticed, spring has arrived! With the change of season, it's important to adjust your skincare routine accordingly to ensure your skin looks and feels its best. The skincare products you use during colder months may not be suitable for the warmer weather in spring. Therefore, it's important to stay on top of your seasonal skincare regimen to ensure you're giving your skin the care it needs.

Here's some advice on how to update your skincare routine for spring.

Use Gentle Cleansers and Moisturizers

During winter, the cold and dry air can harm the skin barrier and reduce the skin's natural oils. This often leads to inflammation, dehydrated skin, visible redness, and other similar conditions. Additionally, dead and damaged skin cells can accumulate, which can make the skin look dull and tired. As someone who works at a boutique, I have seen these issues firsthand.

Because these problems aren’t as prominent after the winter weather fades, your spring skincare routine can be lighter and gentler. During the winter, it’s understandable that your instinct would be to use physical solid exfoliants to eliminate dead skin cell buildup. However, most of the cleansers (https://www.ahigherbeautysalon.com/product/bion-mineral-cream-exfoliating-cleanser-4-oz/104?cp=true&sa=true&sbp=false&q=false) and moisturizers do more harm than good. Physical exfoliates are far too harsh on the skin, using abrasives that erode the skin barrier and leave your skin susceptible to damage from myriad external stressors.

Hale & Hush Quiet Wash (https://www.ahigherbeautysalon.com/product/hale-hush-quiet-wash-6-2-0z/126) is a gentle cleanser that can be used as a kid-friendly body wash and a gentle cleanser for sensitive skin. It is ultimately a one-stop shop. If you are a skincare minimalist, let this be your singular cleanser.

Gently Exfoliate Rough and Dry Skin

Exfoliating can damage your skin barrier, just like using harsh cleansers. However, using the Hale & Hush Refine Polish (https://www.ahigherbeautysalon.com/product/exfoliatedenver/125) Sensitive skin doesn't have to avoid exfoliants; it just needs to go with the right one: Refine Polish. It is designed to gently stimulate the skin's surface, leaving behind a smooth, clear, glowing complexion.

My primary goal when planning your spring skincare routine is to rejuvenate your skin and improve its tone and texture. Hale & Hush Refine Polish (https://www.ahigherbeautysalon.com/product/exfoliatedenver/125) accomplishes this with two essential ingredients.

Yogurt: This probiotic is rich in protein, providing moisturizing properties that work to hydrate the stratum corneum.

Acetyl heptapeptide-4: is a peptide that helps boost the skin's defense system by promoting microbiota balance, diversity, and an increase in beneficial bacteria, as well as improving the skin's immune response and physical barrier integrity.

These two ingredients produce an even-looking glow, especially after harsh winter weather has damaged the skin.

Protect Your Skin With Sunscreen and Antioxidants

It’s essential to consider your lifestyle changes as you plan your seasonal skincare routine. You’ll probably spend a lot more time outside, so your spring skincare regimen should reflect that.

First and foremost, you should have been wearing sunscreen in the winter, and that shouldn’t change. The sun’s ultraviolet rays can damage your skin any time of year, but spring and summer have more visible sunlight, and people are exposed to it more frequently because they go outside more. Use Senté mineral sunscreen daily (https://www.ahigherbeautysalon.com/product/sent-even-tone-mineral-sunscreen-50-ml/113) —multiple times per day, if necessary.

Adding more antioxidants (https://www.ahigherbeautysalon.com/product/hale-hush-rare-c-serum-1-69-oz-airless-pump/119) to your skincare regimen is essential to ensure your skin is well protected from harmful external stressors like pollutants, heavy metals, and free radicals while you're outdoors.

Our HydroFacial (https://book.squareup.com/appointments/wwlo3oq4ltp27g/location/LYMFXQV6VTN0Y/services/CNPLDSWNSJ43SP7URM427UNK) treatment is the perfect solution for outdoor enthusiasts seeking deep cleansing, exfoliation, and hydration. With the added infusion of powerful peptides and antioxidants, you can rest assured that your skin is protected against the damaging effects of the sun...

Replace Your Old Skincare and Makeup Products

One crucial step often overlooked when transitioning to a new season is removing expired and worn-out makeup products.

These products can contain germs and bacteria and may lose their potency with time. It's recommended that you review your products and do some spring cleaning. If any of your products have expired or are no longer in use, it's best to eliminate them.

Additionally, it's advisable to discard any makeup brushes that are more than six months old.

Integrating A Higher Beauty's HydraFacial (https://book.squareup.com/appointments/wwlo3oq4ltp27g/location/LYMFXQV6VTN0Y/services/CNPLDSWNSJ43SP7URM427UNK) and making minor adjustments to your spring skincare routine can help you enjoy your summer in Colorado without hesitation.

Let's talk about Happiness ... 11/17/2023

"Discover the Secrets to Happiness this Fall at Higher Beauty Facial Boutique!"

Hello, beauties! It's been a while since I last checked in, and I hope you're all doing fantastic. With so much discontentment and violence in the news, it's natural to feel a little discouraged. That's why I want to talk to you about happiness.

Have you ever wondered what the key to happiness is? It's a question that has intrigued philosophers, scientists, and seekers for centuries. But what if I told you that the answer might not be as elusive as it seems? Today, let's explore the wonderful world of happiness and discover why it's sometimes found where we least expect it.

Myth #1: More Money, More Happiness
It's a common belief that more money equates to greater happiness. While financial stability is undoubtedly essential, studies have shown that once our basic needs are met, the correlation between wealth and happiness becomes weaker. Happiness stems from experiences, relationships, and personal growth rather than material wealth.

Truth #1: Experiences Over Possessions
One key to happiness is investing in experiences rather than possessions. Traveling, learning a new skill, or spending quality time with loved ones can provide lasting happiness and cherished memories. So, consider allocating more of your resources to experiences that enrich your life.

Myth #2: Happiness is the Absence of Pain
Another misconception is that happiness is the absence of negative emotions or challenges. In reality, life is filled with ups and downs, and it's perfectly normal to experience sadness, frustration, or stress. True happiness often lies in navigating and growing from these experiences.

Truth #2: Embrace the Full Spectrum of Emotions
Happiness isn't about avoiding negative emotions but embracing them as part of the human experience. By acknowledging and processing our feelings, we develop emotional resilience and a deeper appreciation for moments of joy.

Myth #3: External Validation Equals Happiness
Many seek external validation, believing recognition, praise, or social status will bring lasting happiness. While positive feedback can boost our mood, authentic happiness is an inside job that doesn't depend on others' opinions.

Truth #3: Cultivate Self-Compassion and Contentment
Happiness often starts with self-compassion and contentment. Practicing self-love, acceptance, and gratitude for the present moment can be the foundation of lasting happiness.

So, what's the secret to happiness? It's about redefining our beliefs and focusing on what truly matters: experiences, emotional resilience, and self-compassion.
As you navigate life's journey, remember that happiness isn't a destination; it's a continuous, evolving process. Embrace it, and you'll find it's closer than you think.
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with joy and a lifetime of happiness,

Wow, that storm last night was intense! I truly hope you and your loved ones made it through safe and sound. 06/22/2023

Wow, Colorado just endured a storm like no other! I hope you and your loved ones are safe from hail and flood damage. Unfortunately, I missed all the excitement due to my heavy sleeping habits.

Now that summer is here, we must take extra care with our skin as the sun and humid weather can cause unwanted pigmentation and redness.

Here are some tips for keeping your skin healthy and looking its best.

Firstly, wearing sunscreen daily is vital – even if you're not outside for long periods. SPF 30 is best, and remember to reapply every two hours. Don't rely on foundation or moisturizer with SPF.

Invest in a good facial serum to keep your skin moisturized, and opt for lightweight clothing with UPF protection for added defense against harmful UV rays. Drinking plenty of water is another simple yet effective way to keep your skin healthy and hydrated.

Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables is also crucial, as they are high in antioxidants that help protect our skin from those damaging sun rays. Lastly, regular exercise keeps your skin looking great and helps release the feel-good endorphins that keep us calm and in control during difficult times.

As Brene Brown wisely points out, self-compassion is an act of self-care.
Therefore, let's take care of our skin this summer and protect it from the elements – after all, looking after ourselves is crucial during stressful times.

Do you need help finding the perfect skincare routine for summer? Let me assist you in choosing the right cleanser, serum, or sunscreen for your skin's needs. I prioritize honesty and respect for your skin health in my recommendations. Contact me to get started.

Stay blessed!

How To Get Rid Of Dark Under-Eye Circles Naturally 05/05/2023

What are dark under- eyes circles?

Hello there. I am Araceli, your personal skin therapist. Today I am going to talk about dark under-eye circles. This is something I suffer from as well. Many people do, and I'm always looking for ways to minimize the darkening naturally. Now, some of this is just genetics. My mom has dark under-eye circles. You might also have this in your family—a lot of pigmented individuals like me. Predominantly South Asians tend to have dark under-eye circles, so what can we do about it naturally? If you want to avoid getting lasers or chemical peels, this blog is for you.

First, what gives you dark under-eye circles?
Well, it's a combination of things. It's the pigment of your skin, like I mentioned before, the blood vessels underneath your skin combined with the thickness of your skin. The amount of fluid built up that happens because of sleep and all these other things I will discuss is what you visualize as darkening underneath the eyes.

Let's go back to the "basics"

The very first thing that you can do is sleep more. I know it's much easier said than done but getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep is beneficial, not just for your body. And your circadian rhythms, but also just for how you look. Your skin can look dry, dull, and dark when you don't sleep enough. The best way to sleep is elevating your bed with a couple of pillows at night, and that's just going to make sure that the fluid is draining towards your feet instead of pooling up near your face area so that you don't wake up with swollen dark puffy eyes. That's not what any of us want.

The second is hydration. So basic things here. Sleep and water. If you are dehydrated, have eaten lots of salty foods, or have been drinking much alcohol the night before, you know that your body and skin want and crave that water. And what happens is again that combination of the amount of fluid in that very delicate under-eye area where your eyelid skin is the thinnest. So, if you were dehydrated, the underlying blood vessels would be more visible because there's no fluid to prevent the light rays from hitting the underlying vasculature, staying hydrated. Is key. You know how much water you're supposed to drink, so if you don't, do it to keep your kidneys in good shape and just because it makes you look better, just like sleep.
Third is prevention, especially if you already have some pigmentation in your skin. The best way to naturally treat your under-eye circles is to avoid getting them in the first place. And that means not just wearing sunscreen—a nice wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses. When you're outside, giant, oversized sunglasses look like a movie star.

The bigger, the better because we are in sunny Colorado, and I am prone to getting much periorbital hyperpigmentation outside. So, you will see me covered in big hats and oversized sunglasses. That's how I walk around because I don't want any worsening of my under eye to start getting all dark.

Natural remedies to diminish dark under-eyes circles

Now let's get to the actual natural treatments. We've discussed prevention with hydration, sleep, and sun protection, but let's get to the treatments themselves. Caffeine is one of them. You can do it topically or even if you drink a lot of coffee or green tea. Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor, so what that means is that it shrinks your blood vessels down. All the under-eye darkening is the ability to see the underlying blood vessels. If you shrink the diameter of the vessels down, you're not seeing them as much, so caffeine can temporarily help relieve under-eye darkening. Many eye creams and eye bombs will have caffeine in them, and it's good for a quick fix. (https://ahigherbeautysalondenver.square.site/product/anteage-md-eye-cream-15ml/111?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=false&category_id=21) You could do the tea bags. If you are ingesting much caffeine, drink much water and stay hydrated. Otherwise, you're going to tip the balance in the other way. And if your skin's dehydrated, you're still going to see dark circles, so. The best bet is to use it topically as I do.

Treating allergies is another essential thing. That's your seasonal allergies.
When you have allergies, you get a lot of histamine release, and histamine causes blood vessels to dilate. They're called vasodilators. And that then releases an inflammatory cascade of allergens and cytokines, making everything leaky. So, it makes those blood vessels underneath the eyes. Much, much more visible. So, the best way is first if you can figure out what you're allergic to.
See your allergy doctor. You get patch tested. You get the shots if you need to. I know that's not entirely natural, but it can decrease your allergies.
I recommend a simple thing. When you come home, shower, wash your face, and change your clothes. Because typically, you're allergic to things like pollen, dust, and all of those things that are outside, you can minimize the amount of allergen on yourself, which will help as you go throughout the night.
Another thing I also recommend for my clients is to change all of their bed sheets and linens to be allergen-free. Choose down alternatives as opposed to actual feathers. So many allergies related to feathers. Make sure to wash your pillows as well.
Did you know you can throw them in the washing machine? Not just the pillowcases, but the pillows themselves? And change out any wool rugs in your bedrooms into synthetic ones if you know you've got many seasonal allergies. You want to minimize the number of trapped allergens in your entire house. You can also put in an air purifier that helps decrease the allergen load.
These really simple things are very easy to do, and they make a tremendous difference in how you're going to sleep in just your seasonal allergies and how you look.
Cold compresses are great because they constrict blood vessels as caffeine does. It's going to make the blood vessels more minor. So, you can do a cold spoon if you want. I've seen many people doing that. Some people will throw their jade roller into the freezer and then use that. Well, just that cooling calming is going to decrease the amount of inflammation and vascular congestion underneath the eyes. Of course, you can always use cosmetics, concealers, or even eye creams with optical diffusers. Typically, that's titanium oxide that helps reflect. The light so that the darkening is not as visible. So that's a very easy thing. It's not 100% natural that you're putting something on your face, but it's relatively natural. It's not a laser or chemical peel. And now, there are also a lot of natural treatments in Ayurveda medicine that they've talked about for centuries. People have discussed using almond oil, Castor oil, and turmeric underneath the eyes to decrease inflammation.
Turmeric is excellent because it's a natural antioxidant. The chemical in it is curcumin, and it's being used in a lot of rheumatologic diseases. It really helps with the inflammatory state.
the other things like almond oil and Castor oil are just more online. I couldn’t find any scientific literature on it, but it really shouldn't harm,

Those are my quick tips for natural treatments for under-eye darkening.

A lot of its preventative, but there are some things you can do, like getting adequate sleep and taking care of your seasonal allergies is essential to managing dark circles. Drinking enough water throughout the day and using sunscreen can help protect the delicate skin around your eyes if natural solutions aren’t strong enough.

Here are two of my favorite eye creams to control those pesky under-eye circles!

Until next time!

AGEING AROUND THE EYES

Hello, my beauty. Many people have caught on to how important playing up their eyes can be—after all, the eyes are known as the face's focal point. Unfortunately, the eyes are often the first to show signs of aging due to the difference in skin structure. The skin surrounding the eyes is much thinner at approximately 0.5–1 mm compared to other areas of the face, such as the chin, which is, on average, 2.5–3 mm.1

The thinner skin around the eyes provides less support and makes imperfections, including dark circles, puffiness, fine lines, and wrinkles, more noticeable.

Several methods can be used to aesthetically enhance the eye area, including medical procedures, skin care treatments, and product use at home.

Prevention

Protection is vital to preserving a youthful appearance, especially in the eye. It is well known that diligent sun protection and a healthy lifestyle are the best ways to avoid prematurely aging skin. However, when dealing with sun protection, the eyes are rarely discussed. Several products are available for the eyes to repair the damage, reduce dark circles, and refine lines, but they rarely contain sunscreen. This is likely due to the high incidence of sensitivities around the eyes.

Many chemical sunscreens can irritate sensitive skin. If there is no specialized eye-protection product in the line used in your skin care facility, a simple formula containing titanium dioxide or zinc oxide is the best option.

UVA and UVB protective sunglasses should be recommended for optimal protection. My clients who experience visual sensitivity to sunlight wear sunglasses regularly and typically appear more youthful.
Preventing the signs of aging around the eyes is also accomplished through the use of topical products.

This skin's difference in structure and function is why products are made specifically for the eyes. The eye area has minimal sebaceous glands compared to the skin on other areas of the face; therefore, more moisture should be applied topically to keep this skin soft and supple, helping prevent the appearance of aging.

When choosing products to protect the eye area, antioxidants should also be incorporated because these will protect against further damage. Ingredients such as vitamins C and E are commonly used. Hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and peptides should also be incorporated to support skin health.

Topical Products
Once fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, commonly known as crow's feet, have set in, more advanced topical products can be added to a skin care regimen. Products containing peptides that protect and trigger the production of matrix proteins, collagen, and elastin are often chosen due to their remarkable results and reduced possibility of irritation associated with their use.
Neuropeptides, such as acetyl hexapeptide-8, are a great addition to eye products because they slow down muscle contraction over time.
Retinoids may also be recommended to address fine lines on the outer perimeter of the eyes to stimulate cell turnover and increase collagen production. The lipid-soluble forms of vitamin A tend to be the best around the eyes due to their low irritation rate. One form of lipid-soluble vitamin A, retinyl palmitate, is photo-protective.
Microneedling
The use of cosmetic needling with needle depths ranging from .1mm- .3mm has become increasingly popular, especially for the eye area. Cosmetic needling allows products to pe*****te up to 80% more effectively than putting products on alone. It also triggers a minor wound response releasing growth factors that help the skin work at optimal capacity, ultimately reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Some clients perform cosmetic needling on themselves with a roller or stamp nightly before product application.

Microneedling, called Collagen Induction Therapy, uses tiny needles to create micro-channels in the skin to stimulate a wound-healing response. This response triggers collagen and elastin production, resulting in thicker skin with fewer lines and wrinkles and a more even skin tone. A series of microneedling treatments are commonly performed in a medical setting at four to five-week intervals.

It is essential to assess the skin and the condition before recommending how many treatments should be performed.

Equipment-based treatments
Equipment-based treatments, such as microcurrent and light-emitting diodes (LED), help reduce lines around the eye area. Microcurrent is known for its ability to retrain muscles using electrical current and specific movements. Clients often say they see the most improvement with lifting in the brow area when receiving microcurrents.
LED works by simulating circulation and increasing the metabolism of cells, including fibroblasts, resulting in smoother skin. Multiple treatments should be expected with microcurrent and LED.

These are not one-time solutions; maintenance with topical products is necessary to maintain results.

Some more commonly used devices for treating the eye area are fractional lasers, radiofrequency, and micro-focused ultrasound.
Each modality uses varying energy to heat the skin, resulting in tissue contraction and collagen stimulation.
There are opposing theories about these treatments, as they can be destructive if not used properly.
Clients with deeper set lines who want to speed up the process may be referred to a medical office for more aggressive treatments.

Neurotoxins
Neurotoxins can reduce the appearance of crow's-feet around the eyes by temporarily disrupting muscle contraction. Neurotoxins can also open the eyes with specific injection points beneath the brow's tail to provide a more open and inviting appearance, offering twice the benefit for its use in the eye area. Each client is different and will experience different results per treatment.
Some realize significant benefits from using products alone; others may need medical treatment before seeing results.
As you can read, there are several ways to improve the appearance of the skin around your eyes, from home care to medical aesthetic treatments.

Stay tuned for the next blog about reducing dark circles and puffiness around the eyes.

If you want to reduce signs of premature aging around your eyes, try one of these fantastic eye creams! They'll give a noticeable boost in skin rejuvenation and keep your gaze youthful.
