Sometimes things that feel right can also make you really sad.⁣

That is where I’m at as I say goodbye to Poppy + Laurel Hair Studio. I will officially be closing my doors on Jan 31st, 2022.⁣

There have been both negative and positive forces that have pushed me to this decision. I have learned so much from this chapter and am sad to see it go so suddenly.⁣

If you’re a client of mine you’ll be receiving an email from me shortly, don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.

What I’ll miss most is connecting with each of you. Know that I will always be here if you have any styling questions! Please stay connected! You can find me over on my personal account at (It’s mostly my kids…you’ve been warned…)⁣

I’m not sure what the future holds or if I will end up back behind the chair in a different salon, but in the meantime, I have some amazing curl specialists in the area that I know you will all love!⁣

✨Reminder✨⁣

Sometimes your hair will feel like straw by wash day even with a good routine in place. 🤷‍♀️⁣

This little cutie is a good example of this! She has some highlights which can make your hair higher porosity, but overall she has a great, hydrating routine that she follows every week. ⁣

As your hair gets further from wash day, it loses hydration, especially if you have lightened hair. I’m not saying that straw hair is inevitable or great, but it doesn’t mean that your hair is damaged! It just means that you are probably going too many days between washing.⁣

I’m a huge advocate for washing your hair more frequently. Every 3 days is the sweet spot in my opinion.(If going longer has worked for you, great!) I have found 3 days to be the optimal timing for your scalp health and to replenish those thirsty curls without requiring you to spend too many hours of your week washing and styling your hair. Of course we all have those weeks where we have to put our hair up for a couple of days longer than the “optimal” timing. Don’t sweat it, just know that once you get that hair the hydration that it needs you’ll be good as new! ⁣

I hope everyone’s first week back to reality is going well! Happy hair washing, Curlfriends!⁣

My mantra for 2022…⁣

✨Never Stop Growing.✨⁣

After the recent years, bold claims like “Best year ever!” feel a bit far-fetched. 2021 was both an exceptionally difficult and exceptionally rewarding year for me. ⁣

A Quick Recap:⁣

✨I started the year with a new baby.⁣
✨I started a business.⁣
✨I struggled through postpartum depression.⁣
✨I relocated my studio to Doylestown.⁣
✨I had some amazing trips home to California.⁣
✨I was really homesick after returning home from these trips. ⁣
✨I developed an allergy to haricolor.(10/10 don’t recommend this in your first year of business. And yes, I did try ammonia free color lines.) ⁣
✨I created space for my artwork. ⁣
✨I took some incredibly inspiring classes.⁣
✨I got my life and finances organized. (Shoutout to .roggio for giving me the tools that have totally changed my life!)⁣
✨I realized how lucky I am to have the people that are in my life. Not to mention all of my new curlfriends that this studio has given me!
✨I became even more in touch with who I am and what I want out of this life. ⁣

There were some serious highs and lows throughout this year, but each period of struggle was a time of growth. Each time I made it to the other side of the darkness, I saw little pieces of myself more clearly. Learning to love all of me and accepting both my flaws and my strengths as beautiful and very human. 2021….the year that realized I’m a human!😅⁣

So here’s to accepting that 2022 will not be perfect. There will be highs and lows, but I am so excited for the growth that another year will bring!⁣

Never stop growing💕⁣

Happy 2022!⁣

On a scale of 1 to pampas grass, how much is your life falling apart?😅⁣

I showed this to my husband and his blank stare reminded me that if you’ve never worked with dried pampas grass, you will have no idea what I’m talking about.

Dried pampas grass is incredibly delicate and if you touch it, breath near it, or look at it the wrong way it will completely fall apart.⁣

Does this stop me from having it all over my home and studio? Sure doesn’t! I love and accept pampas grass for the beautiful mess that it is and put it everywhere knowing that it means I’ll have s**t all over my floor to clean up. Worth it! ⁣

I feel like this weird week after Christmas is good timing for a reminder that life will always be both beautiful and messy. If we can love pampas grass with all of its’ flaws, we should be able to love the beautiful mess that is being a human. ⁣

Whether your mess is physical like my laundry mountain or something a bit more complicated, it’s part of life and you’re doing great!💕⁣

✨ Happy last week of 2021! ✨⁣

What day is it…?⁣

We’ve made it to the other side of Christmas! And now we’re in that weird week between holidays where none of us know what day it is or what to do with ourselves.⁣

I hope everyone had a great holiday and can allow themselves the not-so-productive week that we’ve all earned! (Reminding myself on this one.) ⁣

Here are some gorgeous curls to inspire you to wash your hair between episodes of whatever Netflix show you’re currently binging. 💕⁣

Reworking that ✨SHAPE✨⁣

This little mama(to be😘) couldn’t get any cuter! ⁣

Kat was wearing her hair straight the majority of the time, so she had been getting her haircuts done on straightened hair. When she would try to wear her hair curly, the different textures throughout the back of her head created choppy shelves. ⁣

Easy fix! Cutting her curls dry allowed me to seamlessly blend her different textures and create a balanced shape!⁣

So can she still wear her hair straight? Well…sure.🤷‍♀️ But it’s important to remember that cutting her hair while it was straight made for an uneven haircut when worn curly, and the same will be true with a curly haircut that is worn straight.⁣

When you have a tight curl pattern like Kat does, I recommend getting a haircut based on how you are wearing your hair most often. It’s not likely that your haircut will be perfectly balanced both straight and curly. BUT there are ways around that. When you style your hair straight you can add waves or curls to blend your layers, cute hair accessories or partially pull it back. My personal fave option is wearing your perfect curls 100% of the time. Problem solved!😉 ⁣

Styled Kat’s curls using

✨Quiet Calm Curl Control⁣
✨I Create Hold⁣
✨I Create Lift⁣

Enjoy the rest of your day, curlfriends! 3 sleeps ‘til Christmas!🤗⁣

“I don’t know if I’m curly enough to get a curly haircut…”⁣

I hear this ALL the time! People are trying to embrace their natural wave but feel like they don’t qualify for a curly haircut. ⁣

Qualifications for a curly haircut:⁣
Having hair.⁣😘

Yep. That’s it! Whether or not someone with a slight wave NEEDS a natural texture specialist is a different story, but if you are curious if there is a better way to care for your hair then you’re in the club, Curlfriend!⁣

I am always very transparent about the fact that you can get a perfectly good haircut for your waves by someone who does not specialize in curls. What sets these appointments apart is the education on styling and caring for your texture in its natural state. When you work with a specialist(hopefully me🤗😘), you will learn an entirely new approach to caring for your hair! ⁣

So do you need to have ringlets to see me? Nooooo, you silly gooses! I work with all textures! My specialty is to help you love and enhance whatever texture grows from your perfect little head.⁣

Happy Friday, see ya next time!💕⁣

✨10 more days until Christmas!✨⁣

Just a reminder for those of you doing some last minute shopping! Need some Innersense? Maybe a gift card for a little pampering from me? I’ve got ya covered!⁣

You can find the link to my gift cards in my Instagram bio. 💕⁣

Happy shopping, pals!

Dear Santa,⁣

All I want for Christmas is my curl care essentials and a perfect dew point! ✨⁣

If you are in need of gift ideas for your curlfriends, (down to the wire, my kind of people!😉) I’ve got you covered! You can find links in my instagram bio and my website to shop Innersense products and my favorite Amazon tools!⁣

In an attempt to keep the vibe around here personal and not too “salesy,” I haven’t talked much about my affiliate links. It feels awkward or like I'm begging for your money. After some encouraging conversations with my lovely guests, I am inspired to explain more about my links and what it means when you use them to purchase your products.⁣

For those who are not familiar, an affiliate link will keep track of anything you purchase and I will receive a commission. The links will show up in my instagram bio as “Shop such and such” and can be found on my website as banners. You will need to click the link every time you shop or it will not be connected to my account. *Your shopping will not be tracked on any other website.*⁣

I pinky pony promise that any product that I have linked is something that I highly recommend and use personally! The line can get blurred because this account is both a passion project and marketing tool for my studio, but at the end of the day, this is my business and it’s time I put on my big girl pants and share the ways that you can support me!⁣

So with that said, I ask that whenever you purchase a product that was recommended by me that you use one of my links. It has been such an amazing journey building this community and I am constantly in awe of the love and support that I receive from you all. Thank you so much for helping me grow my little business and curl family! 💕⁣

Happy Christmas shopping, my little procrastinating elves! ⁣

Fresh shape for ✨⁣

This perfect little human is Jasmine, aka .⁣
This girl is magic! I have been seeing Jasmine for cupping massages and it has been a true game changer.⁣

As someone who holds a lot of tension in my shoulders, and has a job that exacerbates this, it has been an incredibly effective method to loosen up!

Jasmine incorporates reiki energy healing in her sessions and has created the most wonderful vibe within her space! My last massage I actually re-emerged into the world feeling like Zoolander with no idea how long I had been in there or what day it was.😅 it was amazing! ⁣

Anyyyyyway! For her haircut, we altered her shape and focused on some new styling products and techniques.⁣

Our goal was soft, lived-in definition, and volume. ⁣

I applied Quiet Calm Curl Control and I Create Lift to her hair when it was soaking wet. After gently scrunching out the excess water, I sprayed I Create Finish before diffusing. Look at these happy, bouncy curls! ✨⁣

You can shop products and supplies through the links in my bio! ⁣🤗

Pumpin’ up the volume with this new shape! ⁣

One of my favorite qualities about textured hair is that it has the ability to take up space! ⁣

I get to sculpt 3-dimensional shapes that bring curls to life! What could be better? ⁣

Looking at it from a non stylist angle…I love women who choose to take up space. 🥰 There is something special about those of you who not only embrace your curls, but encourage volume with shapes and styling that let your hair be free!

Some of us have spent so much time trying to “tame” or contain our hair.🙋🏼‍♀️ I think that can trickle into other areas of our lives without us realizing. Don’t be afraid to be who you are meant to be. We only get one shot, let’s take up some space!.✨😉 ⁣

Tips for creating more volume:⁣

✨SHAPE✨ This is incredibly important for everyone, but especially for those of us who have a looser curl pattern. A good shape will enhance your curls! ⁣

✨Products✨ Avoiding products that will weigh your hair down. Some of my go-to stylers for volume are I Create Hold, I Create Lift, I Create Finish and Amplify Mousse from .us . ⁣

✨Diffuse✨ If you want volume…diffusing is your BFF! Check out my previous video on different diffusing techniques!⁣

I hope these cheesy, but important words wrap you up like a hug(a friendly, consensual hug.) as I send you into your weekend feeling inspired to amplify all that you are meant to be!💕🙌⁣

See you next week, Curlfriends! ⁣
