🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

The Dunwoody Police Department is warning residents about a scam involving subjects impersonating law enforcement officers and federal agents.

A recent victim reported receiving phone calls from individuals claiming to be affiliated with law enforcement agencies who stated their bank account was under investigation for money laundering. The scammers used spoofed phone numbers, including one that appeared to come from the Dunwoody Police Department. They then attempted to pressure the victim into wiring $18,000 and communicating through WhatsApp.

Fortunately, the victim recognized the scam before sending any money.

Please remember:

• Law enforcement agencies will NEVER demand money transfers, wire payments, gift cards, or cryptocurrency.
• Scammers can spoof phone numbers to make it appear they are calling from legitimate agencies.
• Never send personal information, banking information, copies of identification, or account balances to unknown individuals.
• If you receive a suspicious call claiming to be from law enforcement, hang up and contact the agency directly using a verified phone number.
