After COVID I expanded my current location. I was ready to grow.

Then I tried to find nail technicians who understood customer service. Who wanted to perfect their craft. Who wanted to build something real with me.

That was its own battle.

Then I started a crowdfunding campaign. Asked my community for $20. Twenty dollars. And was met with more negativity than support.

I’m a Black owned, woman owned business. I did everything they told us to do. And the door kept closing.

I tried to open a Black owned walk-in nail salon.

I tried.

I walked into banks in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill asking for $150,000 to open a second location in Carrboro.

I was rejected. Every time.

Not because my business wasn’t real. Not because my vision wasn’t clear. But because nobody took me seriously enough to give me the time of day.

A Black woman. A business owner since 2017. And I still couldn’t get a seat at the table.
