I've always been fond of styling hair. When I was little, I made my babysitters let me braid their hair whether they liked it or not. At age 12 my dad let me start trimming his hair, so I thought, "I got this!". If you've seen the amount of hair my dad has, you could've "got this" too. Then, about a year later, I talked a schoolmate into letting me turn her medium length hair into a pixie. When her mom came to pick her up she said, " How'd you know how to do that?" rather than, "How dare you do that!", so I thought I was a success, again. Soon I convinced other friends to let me cut and color their hair throughout the rest of middle and highschool. Some failures but quite a few wins, so I was hooked.
I was a freshman when I heard about Aveda Institute. I had to go. Four years later I did just that without any doubts or hesitation or thoughts of another career path.
Aveda was so fun! I met wonderful girls there, some of whom have become lifelong friends. In September of 2004 I graduated and started looking for my first job.
I took my first stylist position at an Eden Prairie Aveda salon in January of 2005. I was there for two years and then jumped as fast as I could to The Hair District in Edina so I could rent my own chair. With the help of the staff there and a lot of hours behind the chair on my end, I was able to reestablish a clientele and continue to grow both my skills and number of clients.
After nine years at The Hair District and now almost nine years owning my own little salon, The Gingered Vixen, I couldn't be more proud of the success I've had and more happy with the path I pursued.
I literally couldn't have done it without all my amazing clients that make my days so fun and enjoyable. There are several days when I think to myself, "I get paid to do this. No one can have a better job" as I laugh with you and snip away.
