Of these very distinct entities is Aquilaria, an archaic tropical evergreen of East Asia, and the middle east responsible for the unparalleled resin known as Oud. For centuries a consistent companion in both centering and transcendence across cultures, burned as incense, administered in remedies, and worn as parfum. Much like palo santo, the presence of agarwood can only be retrieved from felled trees, and what’s more, is that only when a tree has been infected by fungus or injured can the resin be produced. So, it is particular that through stress into adaptation are its resins, known as aloes, produced.
