Oregon’s Beauty Education

Okay real quick—beauty industry friends (especially my Oregon people) 👀 read this because it’s worth it - salons, barbershops, students, industry professionals, I’m talking to you.

I started working with Beautista recently and I’ve gotta say…
we are seriously sleeping on it here locally.

Like I’m barely seeing Oregon profiles on there… which is crazy considering how much talent and opportunity we have.

It’s basically just a free platform where you can throw all your work into one clean, professional portfolio—BUT it also connects you to jobs, education, mentorship’s and even opportunities with bigger brands… which is something that’s hard to get! You literally could get access to becoming a platform educator from this with brands like Pulp Riot, Redken etc. because they work with Loreal and SalonCentric - HUGE brand opportunities there.

Not just hairstylists either—this is for
barbers, estheticians, nail techs, makeup artists, students, schools, salons… all of it.

I know everyone just uses Instagram (same lol), but this is more like something you’d actually want when it comes to getting hired, growing, or leveling up.

As a salon/barbershop you can post job listings and see portfolios versus a paper resume with minimal context - which is HUGE when helping me personally make a decision for bringing someone in. This part is HUGE if you have empty chairs sitting, do this ASAP.

For schools, it can track data and create reports you have to have anyway, saving you time manually creating them and helps students set up for success and placement.

For students it can help with salon placement, continued education, mentorship’s with HUGE artists (some student exclusive) and future brand partnerships.

The opportunities are literally limitless.

And it literally takes like 10 minutes to set up and it’s free..

If you’re in the industry at all, I’d honestly just make one and sit on it if nothing else.

I’ve stepped into a new role as School Growth Manager at Beautista.

This opportunity aligns directly with everything I’ve built my career around—education, industry growth, and creating real pathways for success in the beauty space.

Coming from building a salon, hosting education events and working closely with artists and students, I’ve seen firsthand where the gaps are—especially when it comes to transitioning from school into a sustainable career and maintaining that career.

BEAUTISTA is actively working to bridge that gap.

And I’m proud to now be part of that mission on a national level—partnering with schools to strengthen student outcomes, career readiness, and real industry connection.

This is just the beginning—and I’m incredibly excited for what’s ahead.

The Eugene Beauty Expo started with one social media post and a lot of cold emails.

A few years ago, it was nothing more than an idea.

No sponsors.
No educators booked.
No proof anyone would show up.

Just a belief that Oregon’s beauty professionals deserved access to high-level education and connection opportunities locally, without having to travel to bigger cities.

So I started building.

Cold calls.
Cold emails.
Cold DMs to educators and brands I admired — many of whom had never heard of Eugene, let alone an expo happening there.

Some didn’t respond.
Some said no.
But a few said yes.

Those yeses turned into something real.

Educators like Oscar Bond, Fern the Barber, Presley Poe, Ira Pope Sage, Brian Hickman and Matty Conrad (and so many others) sharing their knowledge on stage.
Brands stepping in to support the vision.
Rooms filled with professionals excited to learn, connect, and grow together. Thank you all again so much for the support when I needed it from our community.

What people often don’t see behind projects like this is the tenacity required to build something that doesn’t exist yet — the outreach, relationship building, logistics, marketing, and problem solving that happen long before the doors open.

The Eugene Beauty Expo eventually evolved into Oregon’s Beauty Education, but the experience reinforced something important for me:

I love building things from scratch.

Creating momentum where there wasn’t any.
Connecting people and ideas.
And turning a vision into something that genuinely serves a community.

Grateful for every educator, brand, and professional who helped make it possible.
