Oldie but goodie 💫
I can’t stress enough how much water can affect your hair.
The water down here is horrid 😖
The things I recommend to combat this !
1. Shower head filter- changed out every 3 months
2. Detox shampoo-depending on your hair type, no not every clarifying shampoo is the same.
3. Shampoo and conditioner recommended for your hair type.
What janky water can appear as?
1. Dull hair
2. Brassy or worse, green
3. Dry/stiff
4. Won’t retain color or flip side, won’t take color well
5. Doesn’t “lift clean” when lightening. Either lifts “hard” or takes a really long time to process or worse lifts green.

This photo is of a woman in France who suffered an allergic reaction after coloring her hair. How fun does this look?
How frequent are allergic reactions in the salon ?
Answer : common, very common.
And yes I just had a potential new client requesting to sit in my chair with an allergic response.
How did it go ?
We had a VERY IN DEPTH CONSULTATION ON COLOR ALLERGIC REACTIONS in which I declined to take her on in the end because I felt she did not hear how dangerous allergic reactions are-or simply wanted to ignore.
I have 22 years of experience and continuing education for a multitude of reasons.
Did you know licensed cosmetologists are licensed for two main reasons-and mind blown-it’s not to perform hair services properly 🤯
It’s to:
1. To NOT spread communicable disease diseases and
2. Chemistry, you can absolutely cause serious harm with chemical burns and or destroy someone’s hair and or skin which can wind you up in the hospital or worse permanently disfigured 🚫
Did you also know many states right now are looking to lift cosmetology licensure altogether?
Think finding a halfway decent licensed stylist is hard to find now? Many states have have already started to de-regulate our industry by lowering cosmetology school hours and testing, we are seeing a shift of subpar stylists with serious lack of education and honestly fear of how dangerous working with chemicals can be.
➡️ Did you also know that your licensed stylist/lash tech /aesthetician/ tattoo artist/ brow techs such as micro-bladers working legitimately should be carrying liability insurance?
💯Absolutely-because allergic reactions and chemical burns are super common in this industry. Who are you looking to hold for accountability if you end up like this ?

❌ Warning: long post, but worth the read if you want to understand the hair industry. ✅
This year marks 22 years in the hair industry for me, and while I still love what I do, I’m getting close to burnout from constantly having to defend the value of this work.
Time and again, I encounter misunderstandings about pricing and the realities of running a salon — even from within our own industry. The truth is, a business of any kind must be self-sustaining. It cannot rely on a spouse to cover rent, car payments, or personal bills if a week isn’t profitable. Every price reflects the work, overhead, rent, insurance, taxes, product costs, and self-employment expenses that go into keeping a salon running.
Hair Prices Are Not Random — Here’s What You’re Really Paying For
Hair prices aren’t pulled out of thin air. They reflect years of hands-on experience, ongoing education, premium products, physical effort, artistry, and the reality of running a business. Every haircut, color, or style you get is backed by knowledge that doesn’t just appear in the chair — it’s earned.
Years in the industry doesn’t automatically equal expertise. You can have someone who’s been doing hair for 15 years but hasn’t continued learning beyond cosmetology school — and you can have someone fresh out of school who is constantly training, attending workshops, and sharpening their craft. Skill is earned and maintained — it’s never just about tenure.
Industry alert — de-regulation: Cosmetology is being de-regulated in some states, meaning rules that once protected clients and ensured professional training are being loosened. Some areas are even pushing for no licensure at all. If you think bad haircuts and uneven color happen now, just wait — skill takes time, energy, and effort, and it can’t be replaced with fewer requirements.
Let’s get real about the profession itself: hairstylists do not get paid vacations, sick days, maternity leave, health insurance, or employer-funded retirement plans. If we don’t have enough clients in a week, it’s not up to our spouse to pay the rent — the business has to be self-sustaining. The price you pay is not what we pocket. A $300 service isn’t $300 in our bank account — most goes right back into taxes, rent, product costs, insurance, and continuing education so we can stay open, licensed, and serve you at a high standard.
Now let’s talk about discounts. One of the most frustrating misconceptions in this industry is the idea that services should be discounted “just because.” In nearly every other professional service — whether it’s a plumber, electrician, or contractor — you pay the set price for the work required. You don’t expect a discount just because the job takes extra effort or materials. Asking for discounts undervalues the time, skill, education, products, and overhead that go into every service. Hair is skilled, physical, precise work — artistry combined with chemistry, technical knowledge, and years of practice.
Post-COVID changed everything. Nationwide, the number of working salon professionals has shifted dramatically. Many have left the field — not because they don’t love hair, but because rising costs, burnout, staffing pressures, lack of benefits, and unsustainable conditions make it hard to build a long-term career. Workforce numbers haven’t fully rebounded, and there are fewer professionals available behind the chair than people realize (Data USA). Some stylists have left the industry entirely because wages haven’t kept up with the cost of living despite the value and demand for skilled professionals (Gitnux).
Next time you sit in the chair, remember: you’re not just paying for a haircut or color. You’re investing in experience, ongoing education, artistry, physical labor, business overhead, and the professionalism it takes to make your hair look and feel its absolute best.
A final note: if you’re tempted to question why hair costs what it does, ask for a discount, or wonder about salon policies — remember this: hair styling is a professional service, and we operate like any other independent contractor. Expecting exceptions undervalues our time, skill, and business. As women in this field, our work is often undervalued, but the standards, costs, and responsibilities are the same as any other trade or skilled profession. Quality work has a cost, and running a self-sustaining business isn’t optional — it’s essential, especially if you’re operating out of a brick-and-mortar location with commercial rent, utilities, and overhead. This is a business — like any other business, it has to be self-sustaining.

Had to post this article🗣️
I talk about thyroid almost on a daily basis. Women come in and sit down and ask about their hair loss constantly. Hormones and thyroid are my number one go to for culprit.
This article is heartbreaking, it is so obvious that this poor woman had some sort of thyroid issue and because the “numbers” came back fine, she had no thyroid issue in the main stream medical world’s eyes 🤮
* in reading the article the majority of doctors did their gold standard testing which is not the full thyroid panel.
* in fact she had Hashimoto’s all along and no doctor could pick up on it. 🤦🏼♀️
When there are complaints of hair loss, hair, thinning, weight gain, weight loss, get your thyroid checked.
TSH and Free T4 are usually the go to for most doctors, those are not the thyroid tests when I recommend getting to your doctor. Instead a full panel should be run, I’ll include here⬇️
TSH
Free T4
Free T3
Reverse T3
Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies
Thyroglobulin Antibodies
Thyroid-Stimulating Immunoglobulin (TSI)
TSH Receptor Antibody (TRAb)
❌Believe it or not the majority of endocrinologists don’t even want to run a full panel and will beg to argue with you as to why you don’t need it.
This is gross medical negligence. We are in the year 2026 and claim to be so medically advanced, a full panel should be bare minimum and a yearly requirement in a medical exam.
Ladies, advocate for yourself, we know our bodies, we know when something is wrong.
I myself have Hashimoto’s and went seven years undiagnosed because time and time again they did not run the full panel.
