Growing up, living with my grandma throughout different seasons of my life, she taught me the treasure of a garden.
Her space of creativity, solice, gathering, and time with God.
She loved adorning her yard with flowers and trinkets. She loved to dress me up and have tea parties and photoshoots with her flowers surrounding me.
In April 2024, just two weeks after opening Hart Form, I was dealing with the remnants of a car accident involving a semi truck that ran a red, as well as opening a business just a week prior. Besides myself, I went to my grandmas for comfort.
In her efforts to distract me, she asked me to repaint a weathered butterfly yard ornament. Reluctantly, I obliged. We spent that afternoon in her yard reflecting, laughing, and embracing each other not knowing it would be our last.
The next day, she suffered a stroke. The grandma I knew was gone that day, and she joined Jesus 2 months later.
Building out this garden initially began as an effort to put my energy into something positive and increase my property value - my design choices may be up for question here. 🥠🤣
It ended up becoming a space of remembrance, continuous processing of grief, and a passed down legacy.
Collecting my grandma’s things and curating this garden, I reflect on all the memories, empty seats, and lessons instilled from a true angel on earth.
The table she gathered with her friends and family is now here for me to welcome mine and share the many gifts she passed down.
For those who’ve followed closely on this little garden journey this summer… thank you. The depths can only be taken so far within the confines of the internet but it’s been an honor to share a space and project that truly means so much to me. 🦋
The butterfly I painted while I had my grandma pull conversation cards & answer prompts about her life our last day together the day before her stroke. It
A poem my grandma wrote for her Mom’s funeral. My grandma lost her daughter (my mom), and her mom (my GG) a month a part. She was gifted with creativity & a knack for writing. We found this in her things a few months after her passing.
