HAPPY HUMP DAY, EVERYONE!

Today, we’re going to have a little nail education moment because I believe this is something EVERY nail client should be aware of!

Yesterday, I had a client come in for an artificial nail removal, and what I experienced during the process was concerning.

While soaking off the product, I noticed that instead of breaking down as expected, it became gummy and extremely difficult to remove.

This raised some concerns about the type of product that may have been used, including the possibility of MMA.

So, what exactly is MMA?

MMA (methyl methacrylate) is a liquid monomer that has historically been used in some artificial nail enhancements as a cheaper alternative to other professional nail monomers.

Why is MMA concerning?

MMA-based enhancements can be extremely hard, rigid, and difficult to remove. When combined with improper application or removal techniques, this can increase the risk of damage to the natural nail.

Some of the concerns include:

* Excessive filing of the natural nail plate
* Thin, weak, and fragile nails
* Trauma to the natural nail if an enhancement is accidentally hit or pulled
* Difficult and potentially damaging removal

Now, let’s talk about yesterday’s removal.

The entire removal process took approximately ONE HOUR.

Could I have aggressively filed the product down to make the process faster? Absolutely.

But I chose not to.

My priority was to carefully remove the product while preserving as much of her natural nail as possible.

Once the product was removed, I could see noticeable thinning, roughness, and damage to the natural nail plates.

And I’ll tell you something. Seeing nails in this condition genuinely makes me sad.

Not because of the client, but because this should NOT be considered a normal part of getting your nails done.

I understand that affordability and convenience are important. But please remember that cheaper and faster doesn’t always mean better, and expensive doesn’t automatically mean safer either!

What matters is proper education, quality products, safe application, and responsible removal techniques.

As a licensed nail technician, I believe you deserve to know what’s being applied to your nails and how those products are being removed.

After the removal, we transitioned into a Dazzle Dry manicure using Transform, a ridge filler that helps smooth the appearance of uneven nails.

Now, I want to make something very clear.

Dazzle Dry isn’t going to magically repair damaged nails overnight. Existing nail plate damage needs time to grow out.

However, gentle manicures, proper maintenance, and protecting the natural nail can help support that process.

And this brings me to something exciting!

Yesterday’s experience inspired me to start working on a possible new service here at Natural MC Nails!

A service focused on helping clients transition away from artificial enhancements and begin their natural nail health journey.

Whether you’re dealing with thin, fragile nails or simply want to start prioritizing your natural nails, I want to help you make that transition with education, patience, and proper care.

Please remember: Beautiful nails should NEVER have to come at the expense of your natural nail health.

Be an informed consumer. Ask questions. Know what’s being applied to your nails. And never feel embarrassed about advocating for your nail health!
